Terrell Pryor, High upside?

Postby jcc6fd » Fri Aug 19, 2016 7:20 am

I'm interested to hear what the community thinks about Pryor's potential this year and beyond. I just grabbed him as an end of the bench guy and my expectations aren't high, but I like to have guys who have the physical tools to be great at the end of my bench. I tried to look up a draft profile and some player metrics on him (I know he was drafted as a QB), but the 2011 NFL draft site wasn't loading for me, but that might be because I'm on my work computer.

Some good things going his way:
Big plays in the preseason so far
Good rapport with RGIII
Currently a starter in 2 WR sets thanks to the Gordon suspension
Cleveland may be throwing a lot in 2016

So is he a guy with the physical tools and football ability to where if things break right he could contribute in fantasy?

Yes, but he is still inexperienced and lacks refinement. Based on that, I think he will be a spotty play week to week even when the matchup looks good on paper (matches against a poor CB, etc.) I'd draft him with confidence in a best ball league, though. I think he will blow up a few weeks this year, but no one will see them coming. After this pre-season, everyone will see these go routes coming and plan to stop them. Unless he truly is a physical freak and they can't stop his go routes, then all bets are off.

I would like to know if he's good at anything other then the deep ball. Haven't seen much to express confidence in aspects other the down field balls.

Good insight from both of you regarding his route tree. If he's only a deep ball threat the cats out of the bag.

probably better in best ball leagues..

if you have the room, it wont hurt to keep him on your bench though. but he will probably drive you nuts on when to use him this year.

His 93 yard TD run whilst Raiders QB is their longest in franchise history .... Not that he had much to beat once the Steelers bought the fake hand-off worse than you'd expect a pee-wee team to.

I think there is more than just a go route in him, but his plays may have to be specifically schemed for him which could limited his usefulness to the team and therefore as a FF player. I own him in two leagues and have the popcorn ready.

I own him in several leagues also, has been a favorite late round flier of mine in deep leagues the past several years. I've enjoyed the pre-season so far, I like getting something for nothing.

I think he's a 27 year old rookie, basically. Rookie upside has increased greatly in recent years, so it's not impossible that he has a Hurns style rookie season, with the upside of Terrance Williams maybe? Who knows, he could be great at WR having missed his calling by playing QB, but I consider it unlikely. I like DGB far more still.

Reminds me of an older CPatt.

I've stashed him off the wire in one league.

He's already done better than I thought he was - I was expecting a Joe Webb type transition.

I just picked him up this morning. I also have CC.

Becasue of TP, Barnidge also will create mismatches. Now even if TP is go route only, there is another guy on the other side of the field (Coleman) that will drives team crazy. Take your pick either TP faces second best corner or Coleman does. Now add in Gordon. Someone will be facing the nickle back or the 3rd best corner.

I am very excited that he is stepping up. He may be the Wr2 on Cleveland if Gordon doesnt come back like he was. And Cleveland may want to run the ball, but that defense will force them to air it out.

A Hurns-esque rookie season would be phenomenal! Hurns averaged just under 85 yards a game and had 6TDs in 8 games played, but maybe you were referring to just his total yardage/TD output of 51/677/6 over 16. Either way that would well exceed my expectations. T Williams at any point in his career seems like a downgrade from Hurns even as a rookie, but I think I see what you're saying: Potential to be a boom bust WR who is the second option in an offense.

Athletically, he's got great upside, sure. I think that's an objective fact.

He certainly looks like a wide-receiver now. Passes that at-a-glimpse eye-test.

My concern is that he's already 27 years old, and he may strictly be a vertical-route specialist. If that's the case, his production week-to-week will be extremely volatile, obviously. Not to mention that Gordon is a threat to snatch away his starting job at some point.

I'm not interested in buying, but I will say that Pryor's killing the optimism I once had for Rashard Higgins.
