Holt to the Patriots

Postby Steelersfan » Tue Apr 20, 2010 12:10 pm

The Patriots have reportedly agreed to terms with WR Torry Holt, formerly of the Jaguars, on a one-year, $1.7 million contract.

The Patriots have a habit of signing veterans looking for a last chance at ring, so it's not surprising that 34-year-old Holt would land in New England. It's not a great fit, though. Julian Edelman can hold down the slot until Wes Welker returns, and the Pats need a playmaking receiver opposite Randy Moss. The signing shouldn't preclude them from adding a receiver with an early-round pick. In fantasy terms, we prefer Edelman to the declining Holt as a potential WR3 this year.

You've gotta admit that NE was a really good landing spot though for Holt, not many other receiving options there after Moss, and Welker could miss a lot of this season.

I don't think Welker will play at all in 2010.

Dont underestimate Julian Edelman(also not sure about Welker and his role in 2010). I can see him posting better overall numbers and FF points than Holt.

I am giving the edge to Holt. Belichek likes veteran players.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

Not expecting anything but won't count him out either. Large roster limits like we have and nothing but a bonus to hang on to him now when before he could have very easily been a cutday player.
