To be perfectly clear, I recognize the argument you are making, it’s just that I’m dismissing it as unbelievably asinine at the same time.remedy29 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 1:56 pmNot directing my response to you, just your the latest.blemly wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 1:30 pmNo one is attacking anyone as far as I’m concerned; rather, people are rightly calling out a comment blaming the incident in part on the NFL for putting a franchise in Las Vegas, which is demonstrably absurd.dlf_mikeh wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 1:15 pm Let's stop attacking each other and get back on topic.
I want to say Ruggs is done. He should be. He was drinking and driving and killed someone.
Then I remember that Dante Stallworth did the same thing in 2009 (?) and he played another several seasons in the NFL after he served a very minimal sentence. I think the victim's family settled or forgave him... can't remember specific details... but that made his sentence lighter. I wonder what will happen here.
These guys have a designated driver service that they can use. Senseless tragedy...
As for Stallworth, his sentence was greatly reduced because the pedestrian he hit and killed was jaywalking iirc. This bad fact likely helped Stallworth’s legal team settle the matter and put it behind him, allowing him to continue to play football. It’s way too early to tell what defense might be mounted by Ruggs’ legal team here, but he’s in trouble no matter how you slice it.
I didn't blame the incident on the NFL. But suggested it may not have been a wise idea to put an NFL team in Vegas. If you do not recognize that as a discussion, then your slow to recognizing it as a factor.
Where else in the US are "professionally working women" all around on a place called the Vegas Strip combined with women, and men, traveling there specifically to have a good time and leave their inhibitions at the door?
People do travel to Vegas to party from big cities such as LA, NYC, NO, etc ..
People mention why not take an Uber. Sure, that is the logical and rational thing to do, but how does one impress the ladies in an Uber? You impress them by driving an expensive Corvette speeding down the Vegas Strip late in the evening.
Sure bad incidents have happened elsewhere, but Vegas has been open for 1.5 years ( were players even allowed out last year?) and perhaps the biggest NFL related drunken felony already occured in Vegas.
Yet, your blasting me for stating the obvious?
I'm done on the topic.

Right? You're a millionaire. Get a cab. Go see the strippers, go pay for sex, gamble, whatever. Just don't drive DRUNK. Lord. WTH. Just so dumb. It's sad.Cameron Giles wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 3:54 pmYeah, you would think these guys are always with someone who can drive them. Just inexcusable all around.wickerkat1212 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 1:46 pm I never understand these guys getting drunk and getting into accidents. Drive a fast car, sure, but do it sober. Go on the highway. Or rent a car at a racetrack. But this is just stupid. Senseless. Use your car service. What a waste. Ruggs is done.
He was playing well this season too.

Like someone mentioned earlier all these guys have access to car service 24/7. I'm sure the vehicles used are really nice. I doubt any of them are an 8-10 year old Ford Focus . What happened was inexcusable and he needs to do some time in prison

What a crazy turn of events. Lives absolutely changed in a matter of hours. Sad for everyone involved.
Re: Henry Ruggs is Much More Than Speed
He will probably be playing again in a year or so.
Athletes get special treatment and I wouldn't be surprised if a Donte Stallworth type result happened (DUI Manslaughter with minimal prison time).
Don't drop him.

Re: Henry Ruggs is Much More Than Speed
Stallworth was suspended for a year after he was sentenced and went to jail. So Ruggs clock hasn’t started. This is a much bigger problem than Stallworth. I would expect him to play before 2023

Money and talent are undefeated. He will play again.
Re: Henry Ruggs is Much More Than Speed
He won't see the field again for years, if ever. I already dropped him in all my leagues. No way I want to see him on my rosters every day.
The Clock is Running and there are no Timeouts
Re: Henry Ruggs is Much More Than Speed
Yeah it will be at least 2 years until you can imagine seeing any ROI. Not worth holding unless it's crazy deep. Even then I wouldn't fault anyone for dropping

Re: Henry Ruggs is Much More Than Speed
He's probably a drop at this point. He was a first round WR, who was starting to get treated as such in the offense.
If he ends up back in the league it won't be with a team who has incentive to make sure he's really good.
Also, Stallworth was suspended for an entire season. So, at minimum, he's going to miss the rest of this year and an additional one and that's not even talking about the long legal process ahead of him.
Re: Henry Ruggs is Much More Than Speed
Perhaps a year is optimistic in regards to when he will return, but I'm sure he will be back. Not even sure optimistic is the best word choice given the situation.
Stallworth was supposed to face up to 15 years but got 30 days and a one year suspension.
Perhaps I should rephrase it to don't drop him now. It's worth waiting to see how this plays out.

Re: Henry Ruggs is Much More Than Speed
As stated by multiple people earlier in the thread, he's been charged with a crime that - if convicted - requires a MINIMUM 2 year jail sentence. Add a minimum year-long suspension from the NFL and we're talking about someone who won't play football for 3 years.Draftnik wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 5:52 am Perhaps a year is optimistic in regards to when he will return, but I'm sure he will be back. If you want to hold feel free to, but I'm pretty sure the roster spot can be used better elsewhere.
