I'm hearing that Mayo is more likely to get the job in NE.

That's what I'm thinking too.
I think NE is going to have to settle for a coordinator moving up to head coach or either an established lower-tier head coach. I don't think any well-regarded veteran head coach will choose New England's situation over other available jobs.

I saw this on the crawl this morning. I was wondering though, did they actually go through the hiring process and interview the required candidates? I guess they must have. But assuming they did, that was awfully fast.

From what I understand it was a succession plan written into his last contract. They don’t have to follow the hiring process.

No, they didn't need to because they had put a succession plan in place in his contract extension last year. It appears this possibility of BB being out had been considered previously

Not sure what thread to post this in, but it sure looks like Nick Caserio knows what he's doing. Among other things, he's managed to:

-Unload Watson for a king's ransom, during a major scandal

-draft a corner who can be a cornerstone of their secondary

- Get the HC hire right

- Draft a franchise altering QB, and obvious OROY

- make a trade for the top pass rusher in the class (that at the time was thought to be a massive overpay, but the Texans 2024 pick is getting later and later by the week, and now seems to be a decent price to pay, perhaps even a bargain), who is up for DROY and set a franchise record for sacks for a rookie

-signed a RB for cheap who has helped out their offense immensely this season

-drafted a super undersized WR in the 3rd round, who before injury was making his own case for OROY

A number of these things, HC being obvious, and QB, have completely overhauled the Texans culture, and in a few short years, they went from scandal, bottom feeder team, to a playoff team, that not many would want to face.

Caserio has done an admirable job. One of the few Pats guys that seems to have worked out, after leaving NE. He should be in the running for executive of the year.

I thought about this one yesterday during the game. I remember at the time thinking they made a mistake sending their pick instead of Cleveland’s in that trade (though I know Arizona had some say in which one they got too). Either way, they sent the right one now.

Agreed. Impressive job. All of this is anchored by Stroud. The other moves are great but they would be mostly for naught w/o the QB.
