Greg Roman joining the Chargers staff, potentially as OC.

Woof.
KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reports the Chargers are expected to add ex-49ers and Ravens OC Greg Roman to their offensive staff.

This blurb has been updated from an original that incorrectly noted Roman had already been hired as offensive coordinator. We regret the error. Roman’s addition would be an interesting hire ... provided it’s not for OC. It would then veer into “concerning” territory for Justin Herbert. Roman, of course, worked new Bolts coach Jim Harbaugh from 2011 to 2014 in San Francisco, turning in an offense that ranked 11th in points per game in each of its first three seasons. What would make Roman’s hiring incongruent with Herbert is the fact most of his success has come with dual-quarterbacks. Colin Kaepernick, Tyrod Taylor, and Lamar Jackson all enjoyed fantasy success under Roman but are far from the mold Herbert is cut from. While Herbert has athleticism to spare, any Roman-type offense would have to look significantly different from what we’ve seen in recent years. Former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith enjoyed a resurgence under Roman in 2011 and 2012, throwing for 4881-30-10 in 25 starts.
Stock up for the LAC RB1, I guess?

My guess is he's ding-dong-dead the moment Harbs pushes them to take Blake Corum on day 2.

Nope. Can't think of any.

Either way, good news for people who love bad news: per Mike Garafolo...
The #Raiders have locked in on Kliff Kingsbury as their new offensive coordinator. No deal yet but it’s expected to get done. Following a year at USC, the former #AZCardinals head coach returns to the NFL as part of Antonio Pierce’s coaching staff.
How exciting! :D
Even more fun - Kliff just pulled out of the Raiders OC job, and is now the frontrunner for the Washington OC job.

Sounds like he would prefer to work under Dan Quinn (or that Josh Harris just made him an offer he couldn't refuse)

The Raiders interviewed Hue Jackson (not a joke) and Chip Kelly in the same cycle as Kliff, latest reports are that they are expected to pick the conversations back up with Chip Kelly for their OC role now.

There's smoke that this all ties into the Commanders trying to move up for Caleb Williams

I’d do that in a heartbeat if I was the Bears. Move back one spot, draft Drake Maye, pocket the Commies 25 1st.

That would be brilliant maneuvering. In other words, highly out of character for CHI.

Doesn’t make sense to me as the Bears are positioned to be able to compete quickly. I see Maye as a developmental prospect, unlike the much more plug-and-play Caleb Williams.

Not super splashy, But I really like Seattle adding Leslie Frazier as an Assistant Head Coach.

Having a young first timer in MacDonald is exciting, but adding a veteran coach (who's had success on the defensive side of the ball) as a mentor makes a lot of sense. He was the Ravens secondary coach in 2016 when MacDonald was a defensive assistant. So there's some positive history there as well. I like the way things are shaping up.

It's a borderline impossible move to make, so not really fair to score points on CHI there. There's borderline zero chance they're giving up a future 1st to move up.

The moment you call WAS and say "hey, any interest in moving up?" you've immediately lost your leverage. It tips them to the idea that you're not as sold on Caleb as you thought, in which case WAS just sits back and waits.

If another team moves in front of you as WAS, then cool, WAS are still in exactly the same position that they were in. That would be the only surefire way to get WAS to act - you'd need to create a bidding market for the pick - and then that tips off the rest of the league as to what your plans are.

Kliff Kingsbury signs with Washington as OC.

Luke Getsy signs with Vegas as their OC.

I've always thought they'd at least try, and it's likely Caleb would want to be there over Chicago. KK also likely feeling this this is a potential stepping stone to another HC job, I'd think.
