Yes, we are actually (in our rules / process... not player contracts). We're doing exactly what the NFL does with drafted players and UDFAs. Players WE draft in Tecmo get 4 years (with 1st round picks having a 5th year option)... just like the NFL. Players WE sign as UDFAs in Tecmo get 3 years... just like the NFL.
There is NO correlation between the player's Tecmo contract and the player's NFL contract. And where a player is drafted in the NFL is 100% irrelevant to what happens in Tecmo.
I mean, Baker Mayfield was the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft... but in Tecmo, he was the first pick of the second round, making him ineligible for a 5th year option. Nobody was bitching about that. If he wanted the 5th year option, he should have moved up from 2.01 to select Baker in the first round.
Kareem Hunt has one year left on his Tecmo deal... but he just signed a 2 year extension with the Browns. Should we add 2 years to his Tecmo contract?
This makes no sense... again, there's no correlation between Tecmo and NFL contracts. If this was how it worked in Tecmo, we'd never be able to assign years... we'd just be stuck with however many years the player had on his NFL contract.
