Dr.Graffin wrote: Fri Mar 15, 2024 9:34 am With the way they are stacking the offense, this doesn't feel to me like the moves you make for a rookie QB. Is it possible the Bears are setting up a trade for a more established vet QB instead of taking Williams?
These are -exactly- the moves you make for a rookie QB on a cost-controlled salary.

Recall the Burrow/Tua/Herbert draft. The QB we were immediately sold on the most, 5 games into the season - was Herbert, playing with a stacked Chargers supporting cast. Burrow was up and down, and they drafted Chase for him the next year. Tua... well...

The #1 pick is an -enormous- outlay of capital; any high 1st spent on a QB is. You should do everything in your power to make sure that it doesn't become a sunk-cost bust. As a GM interested in keeping your job and having success: you need that #1 pick to succeed, and you should help them do that in every way you can.

This is Poles doing that.
Spot on! CW is in a rare situation where he isn’t going to a complete bottom dweller at 1.01. The bears are using their draft and cap space in advance of the QB. Super smart

Well, Bears finally traded Fields.
Looks like full speed ahead for Caleb.

LOL IDK who thought that. I never thought that. I thought maybe a 2nd could happen, now it feels like a 3rd plus maybe a later pick and a conditional 25. Denver still doesn't have a QB and aren't in position to move up and get one. Stidham isn't going to start. That could still happen.
Hey, at least you got the 2025 conditional pick part right!

Glad everyone can finally move past this all now (hopefully).

Jesus a 25 6th conditional? Is that the deal? Could be a fourth? IDK. LOL. Wow. He went from setting NFL records to a backup. OOF. Brutal. I've been saying they were going to take Caleb. I even mentioned PIT. Draft can't get here fast enough.

The records in question:
Only two QBs have 100 or more interceptions + sacks taken over the last two seasons.

Now, both of them play for the Steelers.
How many games did the Chicago Bears win in 2023?

The 2023 Chicago Bears season had a 7-10 record overall.
What is Justin Fields all-time record as an NFL starter?

Justin Fields has an 11-29 record in his career.
Good times. :D

I'm not saying he's a QB that will even be a starter in the NFL again, but he DID set some QB rushing records, NFL records. I'm just saying he flashed some moments of excellence, but just couldn't find a way to elevate his game. I was never a Fields apologist. I'm dying to see what other offers we got for him that we passed on. A 6th is pretty horrible. But what's done is done, I'm ready for Caleb. I hope they stick at 1.09 and take Odunze/Atl/Fashanu/Turner/Verse.

They were NEVER going to get a 1st.
I had heard they were asking for a 2nd, and I think they held too firm for too long.
Mac Jones, Pickett, other QB's got traded, Bears held firm for a 2nd.....and lost.

Probably were offered a 3rd or a 4th 2 weeks ago, but held firm for a 2nd, and lost.

That's alright, they are still in the black from what the Panthers way over-paid last year.

I’d agree. They played a poker hand and lost but still are still way up. Glad it is over and we can move on. For us Bears fans it has been an ordeal but also fun. I can’t remember the last time we were basically one of the top topics daily in the off season. We are set up great for the near future. If we can get to the playoffs in 2024 that would be the goal year one of a rookie QB. We have 8 picks in 2025 and still a lot of cap space. Relatively speaking, still set up in fine position. I love what Poles and Co have done. Looking forward to this season in the NFC North to see how we fair.

The Bears (and oddly the Titans) are now two of the most FF relevant teams. Not saying either will be good in the NFL, but they have a lot of interesting FF assets.

For sure FF. I’m one of them. We want the dream to continue, but alas the market proved differently. Good news is we are free and clear of the past and it really doesn’t hinder 2024 and beyond…. With that said, no more drastic f_ups

I didn't expect a 1st, but a conditional sixth that could be a 4th. Ouch. Steelers.own Poles again. Feel like the Steelers should of at least chipped in a 3 Rd to make up for the chase rape trade.

They are saying Poles passed on a slightly better deal to put fields in a better position. Hmm. I mean like fields and all ... But.. you gotta take the best deal
