Selling Adrian Peterson
Selling Adrian Peterson
I bought Adrian Peterson at the trade deadline in hopes of winning a championship. It got me a nice shiny bowl of second place. Anyway, he's aging and I have no draft picks except 4th rounders this upcoming season. I love Adrian Peterson and thought I'd just ride out into the sunset with him and his career, but the idea of getting the #1 overall pick this draft just came up. The guy that has it has a solid team that hit the injury bug and and then won the consolation bracket handily (scoring higher than even the teams in the championship). He's a guy that buys veterans regularly at the expense of draft picks to compete now.
If this were last year's draft or next year's it'd be a no brainer to pursue the pick, but this year isn't as surefire as other years. Would Treadwell or Elliot be worth it to make this move and get rid of Peterson? I'm leaning to yes because I have very high hopes for Treadwell, but Peterson will still have two to three years of being Peterson at least. He's a freak and the 30 year old rule doesn't apply. I'm struggling to figure out what my best move here is. I like my team and can compete, but this could be one of my last chances to sell Peterson and get something of potential starting value in return. Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Selling Adrian Peterson
In my league, its hard as hell to sell an aging vet, even AP, I only had a single offer for him in the middle of the season in a 12 man league and I got far less the the #1 overall pick, that's robbery. If you noticed yesterday, Mckinnon was brought in for a crucial series over AP. Ap came right back in on teh next series but he's 31. That's great value!

Re: Selling Adrian Peterson
As much as I love AP and think he has 2-3 top 10RB seasons left, the value of 1.1 is much much much higher. You should be able to flip that pick for more than you even paid for it.

I was just offered the 1.09 for AP. The owner also has the 1.04 and the 1.06. Should I push for one of those picks or be happy with the 1.09? Standard PPR Dynasty.

Re: Selling Adrian Peterson
The 1.01 is a no brainer. I'd like to have the 1.06 as compared to the 1.09. I feel like the tiers are 1.01-1.03, 1.04-1.07, 1.08-1.12..., so the 1.06 would get you into that second tier. But I'd also advise to look at some rookie ADP data and mocks and get an idea of who you'd be getting at those picks
Re: Selling Adrian Peterson
Any 1st round pick for AP is a win. 1.01 is ridiculous.

Re: Selling Adrian Peterson
while i agree that the value is fantastic....i play to win and unless you plan on flipping the 1.1 for multiple rb's...id stick with ap and hope to win in the next year or 2.
starting 2 rb1's should give you a significant advantage that those that have responded are missing. the value is great and most wouldnt pass on that, but i would with your team.

Re: Selling Adrian Peterson
I am a lifelong, diehard Vikings fan. AP has been my favorite player since he entered the league, and I was also a big fan of him at OU. There was a distinct change in his running style this year that had me extremely frustrated. AP has never been a good pass catcher or blocker, making him a liability on third down. It's sad when a talent like AP is on the bench for 3rd and 8 in favor of Matt Asiata, but it gives the Vikings the best chance to convert. Despite that, AP has been the best pure runner in the NFL since he entered the league, and I really don't think it's a debate. He may be the best PURE RUNNER ever, with maybe Jim Brown having some disagreement with it.
Despite winning the rushing title, I think it's time to sell, sell, sell on AP. In fact, if the Vikings found a way to trade him in real life I wouldn't be mad. They can still win 10+ games with McKinnon. I'm not sure if it was the year off, or what happened, but AP was extremely different in his style this year. He has always hit the hole with such explosion that it didn't matter if it was bottled up, he would get 2-3 yards. This year, he had happy feet TERRIBLY. Whenever his initial hole wasn't there, he jump cut, lateral stepped, ran backwards, etc... this is evidence as him leading the NFL in negative yard plays by a huge amount. It was frustrating to watch. A lot of his big runs were just huge holes that were well blocked (80 yds against Oakland, untouched / 50+ against Denver, untouched). I'm not sure why he ran like that. His 2012 MVP season, he had ONE rush for negative yards for the whole year. ONE! That is insane. But that's not how he runs anymore.
Sorry, that was a huge AP rant for a simple question. Just seemed like the right place to share. I am the biggest AP fan and Vikings fan you will meet, take the deal. His running style has changed negatively, and just add one more year of wear and tear to his body.

Re: Selling Adrian Peterson
I wish this trade would have come to fruition. We were in trade talks and then he watched Derrick Henry in the national title game and he's sold on him. Not sure why he'd take Henry over Elliot or Treadwell, but hey, to each their own and maybe he knows something we don't. I still have Peterson and will probably try to sell him to a contender at the deadline, hold if I'm a contender, or just ride off into the sunset with him as he declines.

Re: Selling Adrian Peterson
That's a goal of mine if I can move up that high. Two is a no go because the guy wants Treadwell or Elliot. Three is interesting because that's the guy I got Peterson off of way back when and he'll probably want to stay put, but who knows. He's made some dumb moves in the past (Gave up 1.03 last year for Giovanni Bernard).
