Marc Bulger

Postby Steelersfan » Sat Apr 03, 2010 8:35 pm

The player rep for Marc Bulger revealed that "there are a few teams waiting" for the quarterback to get released this offseason.

Scheduled to receive $8.5 million, Bulger is as good as gone if the Rams select Sam Bradford. GM Billy Devaney would trade him if he could, but no team is going to take him on at that salary. The Bears (with Mike Martz), Panthers, and Bills make the most sense as potential landing spots.

Rams release longtime starting QB Marc Bulger

Bulger
Rams released QB Marc Bulger.
The move saves $8.5M in salary, which St. Louis will need after it makes Sam Bradford one of the league's highest paid passers later this month. Bulger, who turned 33 today, has seen his YPA average drop in six consecutive seasons and his completion rate fall in five straight while looking shell shocked in the pocket behind a swinging-gate offensive line. He'll have suitors (e.g. old head coach Mike Martz in Chicago), but is unlikely to receive a serious chance to start with his new team. Apr. 5 - 3:42 pm et
24 roster spots - 1QB,2RB,3WR,1TE,1Flex

QB: Herbert,Minshew
RB: Breece,Walker,Taylor,BRobinson,Allgeier,Spiller
WR:Jefferson,Lamb,DJMoore,QJohnston,Jameson,MMims, T.Marshall,Shakir,Gallup
TE: Andrews,Conklin

2024 picks: 1.11, 2.10, 4.01, 4.05, 4.07, 4.11

Bradford should be looking at property in the St. Louis area shortly.

ESPN's Adam Schefter predicts that free agent Marc Bulger will either land in Arizona or Pittsburgh.

He points out that Bulger is from the Pittsburgh area. No offense to Schefter, but we don't see it this way. The Cards are pretty well set at QB with Derek Anderson behind Matt Leinart, while the Steelers are high on Dennis Dixon and recently re-signed Charlie Batch. Bears coach Lovie Smith has made it clear that he'd like a veteran quarterback as insurance for Jay Cutler.

I'm sure he would have no problem securing a loan

The Cardinals "may" have an interest in free agent Marc Bulger, according to Profootballtalk.com.

Coaching staff favorite Brian St. Pierre is expected to re-sign this weekend, which would give the Cardinals three QBs. PFT's Mike Florio suggests Bulger could be signed and given the opportunity to steal Derek Anderson's roster spot. At which point, he'd become a threat to Matt Leinart's job should the starter fail to move the offense early in the season.

This follow-up from Rotoworld-

According to beat writer Kent Somers, the Cardinals are not among the teams that have thus far expressed interested in free agent Marc Bulger.

"And it didn't sound like the Cardinals were going to be in hot pursuit, either," added Somers. Profootballtalk had previously reported that Arizona could have an interest, but Somers' source indicates they're not in the market for another veteran. Now that the Cards have signed Derek Anderson, they "love" his arm strength and believe his accuracy can be coached up.

Marc Bulger appears to have some interest in signing with either the Panthers or Raiders, according to ESPN.

Our View: After years of playing behind a woeful offensive line in St. Louis, Bulger wants to go somewhere where he will be protected. It's unclear if either team has interest in him. Stay tuned.

Oakland would be a very intriguing signing actually. I like that for him and for the Raiders. Bulger isn't a great QB by any means, but the Raiders have to do something to replace Russell.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

The Raiders would be interesting, may be his best chance to see the field. The Bears are the other option that makes since with old Rams coaches Mike Martz running the offense and Lovie Smith as head coach.

The Martz offense is difficult to digest, Bulger knows the offense and had his best years under Martz.
