BOOKS!!!!!

Postby Shawn » Thu Jan 28, 2010 11:35 am

Thought I'd start a new thread about Books and Book Recommendations (assuming we have some people here that read them  ) Feel free to post any good books you may have read recently, and would recommend to the rest of the group, they also don't have to be all Sports related, (although there have been some good ones recently) also if there are any books you DON'T recommend you can list those too :) I'm posting my list soon

Anything by Tom Robbins for sure. Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates is my recommendation but anything by him is good.

Christopher Moore is excellent as well.

By the way, I do read alot. Mostly history and biographies but some true crime, Stephen King and Tom Clancy (and books of authors in that genre).

I tend to read history books a lot for work, so fiction doesn't get much of a look in these days. Probably my favourite book from the last decade was Cryptomicon by Neal Stephenson. It mixes codes, computers, World War 2 and today, and while it takes about fifty pages to get into, I thought ir became excellent.

Recently I've read and would recommend:

Bill Simmons - The Book of Basketball - Excellent book if you like The Sports Guy Colums
Andre Agassi - Open - Actually a pretty good book and biography
Stephen King - Under the Dome - Best King read in several years
James Swanson - Manhunt - Really good read about the hunt to track down Lincoln's killer
Erik Larson - The Devil in the White City - Based on a true story
Mark Helprin - A Soldier of the Great War - Excellent epic author!
Malcolm Gladwell - Blink - Very good author, psychology/ self-help type books

Even thought the movie is out right now, "The Blind Side" is a really great book.
