hard to rebuild..so dont?
in a new dynasty, picked up an orphan team in rough shape, I cant get anything really for my vets...people love their young players. what about taking advantage of that and getting vets to make a run of it?
Non ppr, Start 1-2 qbs, 2-4 rbs, 3-5 wrs, 1-3tes, 1 k, 1 def
Roster
Roeth
Rivers
Geno
Tate
James White
zac stacy
silas redd
pierre thomas
kendall hunter
AJG
Marshall
Kerley
Cooper
Boykin
Harry Douglas
Nicks
Phil Bates
Miles Austin
Darick Rogers
H. Miller
J. Reed
J. Amaro
Tamme
Niklas
Gostkowski
Panthers
Vikings
I have 1.2, 1.7, 2.2, a third and 2 fourths.
So what If I also had Gurley (1,2) and Parker (1.7), just spitballin', to also start for me....worth competing? I could maybe nab a few vets who might be cheap like Steve Smith Sr., etc. to .
Or should I got full on rebuild and move Marshall and Miller for peanuts (I likely will hang onto my qbs..not that old)

Re: hard to rebuild..so dont?
Geeze that team is pretty bad. I think I'd probably go for the rebuild.
Another option, depending on the feeling around your league in particular might be to shop some of those picks around. Just reading the forums and trying to make trades in my own leagues, I think people are valuing draft picks extremely high right now, so you might be able to steal some younger talent while draft pick fever is running rampant. Even trying to move the 1.02 for two lower firsts might not be a bad option if that's possible.

Re: hard to rebuild..so dont?
Normally I'm a big fan of buying dirt cheap vets. But in order to turn that into a contender, you would have to buy all the vets. Not sure if you have the capital to make it happen.
By my count, you'd probably need 3 old RBs, so like Gore/J Stew/Forsett?
Probably need 2 or 3 old WRs....call it Vjax/Boldin/Fitz?
And maybe a better TE....like Gates?
That's going to be tough....I say wait until after the rookie hype season, and then sell off the older pieces. If you can get a couple of picks or young players for your picks, take it. But you're not close enough to just buy a few vets and contend, not by a long shot.

I appreciate your guys thoughts...Trust me..I know the team is hurtin'.
But I think that in FF, the herd mentality is so prevalent that one can set themselves apart by zigging when everyone else is zagging.
Lets say the draft goes like this. - Using some rough Rookie ADP pre-nfl draft
Jameis Winston
Todd Gurley -ME
Amari Cooper
Kevin White
Melvin Gordon
Devante Parker
Jay Ajayi - ME
Marcus Mariota
Dorial Green-Beckham
Ameer Abdullah
Duke Johnson
Tevin Coleman
TJ Yeldon
Breshad Perriman -ME
Jaelen Strong
Nelson Agholor
And I pick up D. Walker and Steve Smith:
Leaving me starters of
Roeth
Gurley
Ajayi
AJG
Marshall
Steve Smith
D. Walker
Flex - Rivers
Flex - H. Miller/J. Amaro/ J. Reed / Rookie WR
Gostkowski
Panthers
Is it THAT bad...Looking at it, I have decent QB and Flex 1 production. Content with my WR1, WR2, WR3. I just need my RBs to not suck, ala Sankey, and choose my TE and Flex 2 right each week.
Two people have already told me to just accept the rebuild....be patient....is this the consensus?

Ah, sorry missed it. But yeah I would rebuild unless you don't feel bad bailing as some people do. Your team has a lot of holes but has some pieces that you can get value for. Just be patient.captain howdy wrote:No, its a two qb, nonppr,Madadamus wrote:

Re: hard to rebuild..so dont?
I like the thought process of going the vet route, but would probably dip my toe first before committing to it (if Vets are so hard to move on). That would mean first picking up players that have 2 or 3 years left rather than the Boldins and Smiths that realistically only have 1. So if you can pick up Vjax; Olsen;Stewart or Forsett, or perhaps even AP or Megatron (depending on how cheap vets are) then maybe add a couple of 1 year vets for depth.
99 problems but your 10 team league ain't one!
Re: hard to rebuild..so dont?
I don't see any way you can contend. Even if all your guys stay healthy, you are going to have nothing left for bye weeks. And if AJG or one of your QBs misses time, you are done. On top of that, you probably finish lower-middle of the pack and don't even have a top pick to help you rebuild.
To me, that team is the poster child for shopping AJG. Normally I don't recommend moving studs for 4-5 pieces. But you are in dire need of depth. A couple younger proven players plus a couple picks (including a first) and you get a lot better in a hurry. If you don't want to move AJG, I would completely punt. Trade most of your guys for picks, draft a bunch of rookies, be content with finishing last this year and stockpile picks for 2016 and 2017.
Another key to why you should just rebuild - in your proposed lineup, you are talking about flexing a TE. 98% of the time that is not a winning proposition (the 2% is when you have Gronk & Graham or Gronk and a crystal ball that tells the you the future).

Re: hard to rebuild..so dont?
Alright, good stuff guys, thanks.
Re: hard to rebuild..so dont?
Since it is a 2-QB league, does it make sense to trade the 1.02 for a king's ransom when you are on the clock? My thinking is Some NFL team is going to make a strong push for Mariotta, be it the Eagles, Jets, Browns, or the Titans or Buccaneers take him. So it is hard for me to imagine Mariotta drops out of the top 3 players taken in a 2-QB league draft.
In a 2-QB league, if you do not have 2, you are dead. I would be looking at teams that have two weak or average starters, and have picks or pieces you like and get to work. I would hope you come out of it with multiple picks and some players that will help. If you find a team with multiple firsts and weak QB position, that should be your #1 target.
Keep in mind, Gurley may not even play much this season. I believe there is already some chatter that he starts the season on the PUP list. And we don't even know where AJayi is going yet.

Re: hard to rebuild..so dont?
Sorry your squad is in this spot, but I would also go into rebuild mode. Wait and then move AJG. Stinks, but I would go that route. This squad does have some workable assets though, so just pick your timing well, and certainly can be turned around in 2-3 yrs.

Re: hard to rebuild..so dont?
Thanks guys, I have moved on from the idea that I could swing a competitive season this year. While I STILL believe that SOME teams go into rebuild too quickly, ignoring a chance to grab a cheap vet or two to plug holes and makes a run of it...this is not a good enough team. I would have to move precious future assets to get the number fo vets I need to compete and I see that now.
I am posturing the trading of AJG in another thread right now. I have two qbs, and I think I'll keep them unless a big trade is offered to me. Like bpatrick said, qbs are golden. Others in the league look at my guys as too old though, from preliminary talks. I disagree, I think they can produce until they are 37 if they so choose (dont retire)
I guess this thread stands for the proposition that when picking up a junk orphan...leave no stone unturned.

Try to trade Green for 1.01 and future 1st. Then you can move the 1.01/2 for otjer future 1st to rebuild
Otherwise see which owners have a multiple of cooks jmatt and those types of WR from last yrs draft and see if they are willing to package them w picks for green...

Re: hard to rebuild..so dont?
I don't think your team is that terrible, your QB and TE are solid, RBs are really weak. I like your idea of grabbing Gurley and Ajayi, I think depending on where they land on Sundays they could both be studs. Plus this year is deep for WR so you should be able to get a couple of decent prospects in 2nd and third rounds.
