Dereck Carr progress

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Dereck Carr progress

Postby jetsfan5757 » Fri Nov 14, 2014 9:18 am

So I own Dereck Carr and I'm worried he is regressing, not progressing. I have not seen him play much at all (saw the Jets game and a bit of the Broncos game) but get that sense from box scores and news articles.

Anyone want to share their 2 cents on him?

Would you rather hold a guy like Sanchez (might be able to hold the job in Philly next year and beyond) or Carr?

I have Stafford as my #1 QB but would love to shed his salary. I also have Palmer on IR and I currently have Carr rostered. 10 team league.

Geez man, go take a look at Peyton F*ckin Mannings rookie season - it was terrible. I'm not saying Carr is PFM, but give him a chance, don't over react to a few games here or there.

Hey I'm just asking beast. In the words of the great Aaron Rodgers, "Relax".

I am not saying that I'm throwing the towel in on Carr, and I know that rookie seasons can be ugly for a QB, but you also want to see some progress through the year. Beyond that, I am just asking for observations from people who have seen him play, which I really haven't.

As for Sanchez, it's upside (Carr) vs opportunity (Sanchez). I was thinking about dropping Markus Wheaton for him (I have AJG, Gordon, Evans, Hopkins, Tate, Matthews, Wallace, D Adams, and more on bench), but it's too late. Sanchez no longer on waivers.

In my admittedly small league (8 team, 20 roster spots), Carr has been dropped and is sitting on waivers. People seem to think that better developmental options are out there. I think that some people are worried that the Raiders will do something very Raiders-y and draft Mariota on top of Carr or something like that. If he can survive the off-season, I would look to stash him. To answer your question, I havent seen much of him either but have heard from a number of people that there is good potential there.

I've seen him play a lot and I think he is definitely worth a stash. He has definitely had his ups and downs but he has great leadership skills and for a rookie he has made a high percentage of good decisions. I really think if Oakland can go out and get me a WR to go along with Holmes and Jones and a RB that can keep defenses honest going forward and Rivera continues to development he can be really good as early as next year and I think he will be a top 10 guy in 2016.

A couple of things need to happen for him. First add some weapons on offense for him, a running game is needed and add a proven rb, I can see Oakland overpaying for Cobb. Second add to the o-line which will help every aspect of the offense. Third if they have the #1 try and trade out, get a bunch of additional picks to build this team. If this can happen Carr can succeed and not end up like his brother. Stick it out with him.

I'm a Raiders fan and have watched every game and I for once am thrilled with our QB situation. While his stats are often filled with garbage time production, thats to be expected with the weak supporting cast and always playing from behind. Also, he seems incredibly comfortable in the pocket and efficient running a fast paced two minute offense. They have suggested the idea of running a Philly style fast paced offense depending on the matchup since Carr has shown some of his best work while in a hurry up offense. He hasn't been given the opportunity to throw down field much which leads to a lot of dump off passes. He has shown the ability to throw it deep though so its only a matter of time before he is more comfortable taking more chances.

I think you have to temper expectations with Carr. He's played well and showed enough that I'd definitely be holding onto him but I think he's gotten to the point that a lot of rookie QBs get to, where they hit a wall come November and December. People have been spoiled in recent years by guys like Cam, RG3 and Luck all blowing up in their first year. Carr has nothing to work with at all! Every offensive group (RB, WR, TE, OL) has to be in the bottom five in the league and yet Carr has looked competitive. I know you want to see progress but at some point he is going to regress and you have to take the rough with the smooth.

Just a quick thanks to u all for the feedback. I will definitely hold. I was worried about the possibility of a guy like Marriotta, but hopefully they trade their pick and fill some holes.

Had not even thought about Cobb. That would be great on two levels since I have Davante Adams on the team too!

He has NOBODY to throw to, and no running game. He has a bunch of practice squad caliber receivers and running backs that peaked 3 years ago. Give him a few years. The fact he threw for 4 TD's in a game with these receivers and RB's is amazing. Hold Carr for years. He's 23. Five years from now he'll just be entering his prime. There cannot be a worse team around him then the one he has moving forward. IMO, this is as bad as it gets, nowhere to go but up.
