Larry Donnell - Buy, Sell or Hold?

Postby MrBalloonHands » Fri Sep 26, 2014 2:27 pm

After last nights destruction of "The Pounding Fathers" (Chris Cooley's nickname for the "good against Jacksonville, bad against everyone else" Redskins Defense) what is Larry Donnell's value at this time?

I own him in one league and I'm torn between trying to sell high or holding him in the hopes that he keeps this rate up. Not last nights rate, obviously, but he does appear to be Eli's #1 target in the redzone through 4 weeks.

On a related note . . . should I consider buying him in another league?

The real question is Eli, do you believe in him? I don't believe in Eli at all. Donnell looks good but so did Brandon Meyers for a few weeks a couple years ago. I'd sell if you can get descent value for him, or hold for a few more weeks and try to flip him for a 1st!!!

I think yesterday's game was his ceiling so I'd sell

I have almost no confidence in Eli but I'm more inclined to hold Donnell because of that, if you can believe it. I'm to the point of treating Eli like he's a rookie QB and overvaluing his TE because he's looking to him as a security blanket.

If I were to get an offer of a 1st for Donnell I would accept immediately, btw.

That would be fantastic. I think I'm gonna need a few more monster games before that happens, though.

It's tough to sell to an experienced player after a game like that, because they're going to be very wary of buying high on Donnell. I think you'd have to hold, unless you have an inexperienced owner who's willing to give you a pick in the first 15 or so, or a desperate Rudolph/Eifert owner.

He is on my WW so I'm using my #1 to claim him...

The owner who had him dropped him yesterday morning. At that time he had Witten and Niles Paul. He then traded Witten that day (apparently wasn't planning on it when he dropped donnell) and obviously Paul got hurt last night. So he went from 3 TEs to none in a single day. Poor guy.

But his loss is my gain. He will be my TE2/3 (depending on Kelce) but still.

I think he's being overlooked because Eli is his QB. If he were catching passes from Peyton than he'd have a similar value to what JT had this time last year.

Eli has turned nobodies into viable fantasy starters at TE and none of the Giants top 4 receivers are bigger than 6'2" so a big guy like Donnell will (and has) be targeted in the red zone. Is he the next coming of Gronk? No, of course not but especially with the uncertainty at the position and all the injuries I am very happy to hold onto a guy like Donnell as a spot starter and bye week fill in. What's the max someone is likely to offer for him? Probably a 3rd. I doubt someone offers a 2nd. For that price he's better off on my roster providing valuable depth at a trouble spot position.

I think people are getting too ahead of themselves here. What has he caught so far other than dump-offs..? He is TD dependent and looks to have average ability; that Redskins D left him wide open in the red zone.

Also, his catches weren't all that. He never seems to have a grip of the ball with his hands; of the two TDs I saw he used his leg both times to gain full control of the ball.

Disagree on a couple fronts here. Using 6 feet 2 inches as a barometer is kind of off with Randle being the same height. Realize Corey Washington isn't getting much run right now, but he is listed at 6'4". It's not like he has 3 tavon Austin's & Donnell. I feel he is much more than a "weekly fill in" & has to seriously considered a top 10 TE. Actually saw a few tweets from some guys who's opinion I respect say he is #6 TE moving forward. Overreaction? Maybe..but he needs to be taken seriously at this point.
As far as his trade value, I feel your off there as well. A 3rd? C'mon, I can see a TE needy team sending a late 1st, (depending on league size) but EASILY worth a 2nd. As far as the OP, I would sell if you have the depth. I agree his value will never be higher. Frequently targeted the 1st 3 weeks, then just explodes week 4. Easy sell for me. Don't forget about Beckham, if he ever carves out a role in this offense

He's their most targeted pass catcher so I'd say he'll continue to be viable actually.

In PPR leagues - Donnell is definitely not TD dependant.

He was doing pretty good prior to last night even before he blew up.

If he averages around 12-15 points a game I would say that's pretty good seeing as what most got him for and last night games are a bonus.

He's a hold, but I'd trade him for a 1st. He's this season's flavor of the year TE (along with Niles). I do think he has some skills. Some of those catches were pretty athletic, imo.

Unfortunately, this idiot started Niles instead of Donnell...he had Donnell in the lineup and changed out TE's before kickoff :wall: :boohoo:

Donnell has put up good #'s in every game so far and I think that will continue.
