Isaiah Crowell (Please ignore 49ersFaithful80)

Postby ThirdWW » Tue Aug 05, 2014 5:42 am

I don't believe I'm doing this after my offseason with Josh Gordon, but tell me about the guy. I know he had off-field issues but all I could find was the one incident after his freshman year. Not saying it's a nonissue but has he kept his nose clean since then? Was that the only reason he went un-drafted or was his on field play part of it too?

He also went to Alabama state and didn't really try that hard. Just coasted by because his goal was the NFL. He didn't want to get hurt at Alabama state and never make the pros so he didn't exert max effort. Add in the fact that he went undrafted and I'm not high on him at all, if he was sooooo talented then 32 teams would not have passed on him 7+ times.

Can't help you on Crowell too much, just wanted to let you know you aren't alone on falling in love with upside. In my main league I own Gordon, Blackmon, Gronk, David Wilson (until waivers clear), Christine Michael, Crowell, and Julio.

I have no idea how this happened. With the possible exception of Blackmon I would pay the same price I paid to acquire each of these players.

They all possess incredible upside, but have fatal flaws which could limit them to negligible or even zero production this year.

I wish I knew how you quit you, upside!

there isnt much to like here other than his freshman year at georgia. thats been many moons ago. i guess some could say that they like his situation, but im a believer that when tate goes down that it's west who will get the opportunity and quite honestly, i dont think he relinquishes the job once tate does go down.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts about him. Sure, Arian Foster went undrafted too, but Arian also wasn't nearly looked at as much as Crowell was.

First, I have made several posts on Crowell. I am a believer in he is great stash in deep rostered dynasty's. I am not saying he is a 1st ballot HOF. But posts like the above is absurd. "He didn't really try at ASU". For the record he ran for over 1200 yds, averaged 6.6 ypc, had 15 TDS and was names to several IAA First Team All American Teams. If he "wasn't trying " and putting up 6.6 ypc then I would be willing to move him into Sammy territory lol. So if he tried where would he be? 8-9-10 ypc? This proceeded by being number 1 ranked back in the country and SEC Freshmen of the Year and D1 First Team Freshmen All American. Why teams passed on him for 7 rounds? Teams are learning these guys who have made mistakes can be signed the day after the draft wo the risk. I think he's great stash if you have the roster space.

Good stats doesn't mean he tried. He took plays off and was an "all about me" player. You don't want players like that in pass protection or running routes when he isn't going to to get the ball. You want guys that give max effort every play.

And your reasoning for teams not drafting him is the only statement in this thread that is absurd. If so many teams loved his talent, why would they risk losing out on him in FA when everyone gets a shot to sign him if all they would have had to do was use a 7th round draft to ensure they get such an "elite" talent?

These are his coach Reggie Barlow's thoughts about Crowell and his questionable work ethic/maturity. It's not exactly a glowing endorsement.

"Just talking to the scouts, they're thinking that what
you've done over these four years, that's what you
are," said Barlow, who played in the National Football
League for eight seasons. "The money won't make you
do it. The money will make you lazier and make you
miss more because you've got guaranteed money. If
the guy hasn't done it over the last four years . . . it's
hard to overcome it . . .
When you're NFL personnel and you're investing big
money in these young adults, you want to know that,
one, he's going to play to the best of his ability for as
long as he can play and you want to know he's going to
practice to the best of his ability and you want to know
that he's going to be a good teammate and not cause
strife . . .
Isaiah has grown up and matured a little bit but he still
has to understand that, on that level, there are only
three running backs on a roster. There's a starter, your
change-of-pace back that is typically your punt returner
and kickoff return. And your third back plays on all
special teams.
I've had those conversations with him. What if he goes
to the Houston Texans and they have Arian Foster and
he's the starter? You're the guy that comes in
sparingly. Are you willing to be the personal protector
on the punt team? Are you willing to run down on the
kickoff team? Those are the things he has to answer
and be true to because it'll show. You can't hide up
there."

I win mostly because he ignored the second part of my post which is hard to argue against

Crowell's just not that good, guys. Outside of one game v.s. Carolina his freshman year, he hasn't done much - and that was 3 or 4 years ago. A lot can change.

He also half-@ssed his way through his time at Alabama St. Not to mention his multiple off-field issues.

He didn't even get a touch last night. Not. A. Single. One. And this was after the fumble-palooza the other RBs put on and West looking like crap.

He's an UDFA for a reason.

"Most talented RB in this draft class" my @ss....
