Nicks and pick 1.2 for D.Thomas and 2014 first round pick

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Postby acclizal » Sun Mar 17, 2013 10:51 am

Team in sig. I send nicks and the 1.2 pick for D.Thomas and 2014 first rounder.

The others guys team is pretty good so he will likely be a playoff team.

I'd rather have Thomas and next years pick.

1.2 is a great spot, but looking ahead, the talent pool coming in 2014 looks to be much stronger than this year's. Basically, you're betting that the other team will finish low enough to give the 2014 pick solid value. At the same time, if he is a contender like you mention, even a later 2014 1st could yield a similar result to an early 2013 1st.

Given the fact that Thomas is younger and less injury-prone than Nicks, if it were me, I'd take the gamble, and the trade.

I would rather have nicks and the 1.2. Thomas might be a tier ahead of nicks but that is only because of health concerns.

Doktor hate to break it to you but you are misinformed, Nicks is actually younger than Thomas, albeit by only about a month. Also I think saying Nicks is more injury prone would be a mistake. He really has only been injured this season and it was just nagging stuff that an offseason will do wonders for. Thomas on the other hand blew out his achilles 2 years ago. An injury once thought to be a death sentence to football players. While his recovery has been pretty amazing and he seems to have no lingering effects of that injury, the simple nature of the injury would concern me more longterm then a season of nagging injuries.

Another thing to consider is competition for targets. Nicks has to compete with Cruz, randle, and myers. Thomas has to compete with decker, welker, Dreesen and tamme. Giants have basically came out and said nicks is one of their biggest priorities, more so than Cruz.

Before this season Nicks was a top 5 dynasty wr, I don't think one injury plagued season should have devalued him so much. If it has, I guess I know who I should be targeting this off season.

While i might prefer Thomas to nicks straight up, I don't the difference is large enough to justify trading the 1.2 for. While there might not be a consensus top 1 or 2 players yet, you are kidding yourself if you don't think there will be after the nfl draft. Players always get drafted into juicy situations and owners work them self into a frenzy imagining the possibilities. You will get a very nice player at that spot as long as you do your homework. Or just wait for someone else in your league to fall in love with a player and trade the 1.2 to them for much better value. If the 2014 pick you would be receiving wasn't from a likely playoff team i would say go for it, but I think I would rather have the 1.2 this year then say the 1.10 next year.

Another thing don't forget what Nicks was doing when he was last healthy. In the 2011 Super Bowl run.

In 4 games, 28 catches, 444 yards, 4 TDs.

not feeling this trade...Even tho i do prefer DT over Nicks, the uncertainty with next years 1st is what i dont like. Especially if u feel the other team is a playoff team. I like the 1.2 this year more than late 1st possibly next year.

I like DT over Nicks even with Welker in DEN. The 1.2 is the line in the sand for me. The 2014 talent pool should be better, but theres very little chance that the 2014 pick is as high as the 1.02. The 1.02 is valuable no matter how strong the draft class is. Id stay put, and I think Nicks' value rises again this season. You should be able to get more out of him then, especially if he starts hot.

I would take DT and next years first simply because of the injury concern with Nicks. Next years first should be fine. Its just that this years draft is right here in our faces. I think you would be kissing yourself next year at this time. That is the thing with any investment, you don't see a return right away. Do you have the patience??

1.2 picks can still flop. Therefore, I would go with the player I like the best for the long term. In this case, it is DT (for me). However, if it close for you and you are not that sold on DT, then my advice to you, would be to stay put.

Okay been going back and forth with the other owner the deal is now.

i Send Nicks picks 1.2 and 2014 second rounder

He sends

D.Thomas picks 2.2 and 2014 first rounder

So if i pulled this off i would have 3 first round picks next year mine, and 2 other owners. and i have another owners 2014 second rounder already. so with 4 picks in the top 15 probably would be able to roster my other second round pick anyway so this works out pretty well i think.

What do you guys think of this one?

ya the seconds are now the only thing.....

I think i have decided to pass on it. I started looking more in depth... Thomas put up those numbers on 140 targets last year (most nicks has had in a season was around 120). I dont think he is going to get that many targets again. I mean in all fairness that could of been the best season of his career. With Welker there now and Peyton only around for another 1-3 years.

Where as i feel Nicks hasn't had his best season yet. And i think that if healthy he will put up atleast comparable if not better numbers then Thomas.

Plus the weight of the 1.2 this year as opposed to a 1.6 -1.10 next year i dont think is worth the slight upgrade.

Thanks to everyone for weighing in tho. If you still see it another way tho let me know =)
