He's an elite RB prospect, until the testing. We shall see how he tests. Guy has everything you're looking for, including a great receiving profile.

Where do you all land on him? Seems to be the 1.01 pick, I watched some tape, he looks good. But how good? And do you all have him LIGHTS OUT ahead of the rest of the RBs? One website had him at 92/100 with Hampton/Campbell at 87, 3 at 85, 3 at 84, and a bunch at 83. Thoughts?
Will be drafted as Elite…what he does from there is on himself

So then he's a 3 down guy until we see testing to confirm elite

I was referring to how good a prospect he was. What type of prospect he was. If he runs a 4.7, it's tough to call him an elite prospect at that point. As of now, based on production, and tape, I would say he's an elite prospect. If his athletic testing is good, then that would basically hit the trifecta.

He's definitely a 3 down back, though, regardless of how he tests.

Seems to me there's a bit of Ryan Mathews risk on Jeanty.

I have one share in a SC devy league and he's untradable because of his contract (too valuable). But that'll be my only share.

Note to Jeanty…don’t end up with Arthur Smith calling your plays and you will be just fine.

Mathews turned out, to be made of glass. Jeanty's receiving profile dwarfs his, too. Not comparable, in that regard.

Well yes but is Jeanty better at running than Braelon Allen?? 😂😂

Inside joke folks, move along.

For sure on the receiving. Although Mathews was highly touted as a "3 down back" as he came in to the league. And got very high draft capital.

I suppose the counter argument would be that Mathews, although disappointing, didn't kill his fantasy teams. The other options that year were far worse - Spiller, Best, Tate, etc. What's worth noting re: 2010 vs. 2024 is 2010 was also touted as a very deep RB class. Different times but there were seven RBs picked in rounds 1 and 2 combined. They pretty much all ended up sucking.

I'm sure Jeanty goes 1.01 in most leagues. And that's fine. I just don't see him as risk free.

Not sure why Mathews was ever touted as that, with his best receiving year being 11 receptions. Jeanty's was 43. The idea Mathews was a 3 down back was pure conjecture, if it was a thing. My memory is hazy on that time.

Yeah, couldn't disagree more about the receiving comparison. Jeanty had 43 catches two years ago when they actually used him as a passing weapon, and these weren't dumpoff passes... go look up the advanced metrics.

I swear sometimes I think people just go with whatever the fantasy football community says and takes it as the Bible instead of researching deeper

Neither of us said Jeanty and Mathews were comparable on the college receiving. Not sure where you reading in to that.

Mathews was absolutely touted as a 3 down back. But that's not about receiving - it's about pass blocking

Sure, pass blocking is definitely a part of that, but that's half the equation. You have to be able to be able to do that, and catch passes. Chip, and come off and catch a quick dump off. Or run a precise check down route, and catch a bullet pass.

If you can't pass block, of course you won't be out there on 3rd downs, but if you can't catch well, you won't either. I am not sure who touted him as that, again, can't recall that far back, but a guy who had 11 grabs as a career high, whoever was touting that, was doing some serious projection, IMO.

Also, pass blocking is an issue, to most degrees, for most rookie RB's. Effort is the big issue. Technique can be taught, in that regard, much more than being a natural route runner, and catcher of the football, from basically ever scout/former scout/analyst I've ever heard talk on the subject.

I don't see the risk in profile, or tape, with Jeanty, that you are touting with Mathews, personally. There are less holes, way better advanced metrics (objective), and tape (subjective) IMO.
