To confirm, only 3 players are acquired by auction? The rest are done via draft?

Correct - 3 players via auction the rest from long draft BUT draft is 1-12 ,1-12 none snake draft based on how much money you have after the auction

So what is a Drauction?
It is a half draft half auction!
It is the most fair way to select a fantasy team without the length and confusion of an auction and without the unlucky-ness of a draft!

The basic way it works is that every owner gets $100 fake dollars to bid on/acquire 3 players (basically the first 3 rounds of a draft) Each player must be purchased for a minimum of $1- so I’m theory you could bid $98 on one player you want as you would need $2 left of your money to purchase 2 more players!

So if you wanted Mahomes that badly- you could bid $98 and no one could out-bid you, as you need $2 ( $1 each) for two more players to fill your 3 auction players!

THEN
The person with the most money left at the END of the first 3 auction rounds (36 players) now gets the #1 pick ( NON-snake draft) in every round after in the draft portion of the Drauction ! The person with the next most money left gets the #2 pick in this non- snake draft etc. if two people tie with the same amount of money- the person who got to that monetary amount LAST would get the better pick in each round.

Example -
Team A gets QB Burrow, RB Akers and WR Chase and has $2 left
Team B gets QB Mahomes, RB Swift and RB Montgomery and has $0 left at bid 29
Team C gets RB Taylor, RB McCaffrey and WR Kupp and has $ 9 left
Team D gets QB Herbert, RB Pollard and WR Jefferson and has $0 left at bid 20

Team C would get the #1 pick in EVERY ROUND ( non-snake) for rounds 4-30
Team A would get the #2 pick in EVERY ROUND for rounds 4-30
Team B would get the #3 pick in EVERY ROUND for rounds 4-30 etc as he went to zero $ AFTER team D
Team D would get the #4 in EVERY ROUND for rounds 4-30 as he went to zero $ BEFORE team B

What’s great about this format ( I came up with it back in 1992) is that it is completely fair to all involved. A pure auction is too fast and it is hard to look at your team to decide what position you need etc- and there is no time for trades.
A random snake draft screws the owners who are unlucky enough to get picks 10, 11, 12 etc !

It usually takes about an hour and a half to complete the Auction portion and then the draft portion would be a long draft on MFL taking approximately 2 weeks (12 hour picks that CAN be traded)

If we are going to be playing for a considerable amount of cash in this EMPIRE League this is the fairest way to do it!
