Edit: To be clear, this isn't a pro-Fields comment. He's not good. He also will not be returning kicks.

Corderelle had 219 yards from scrimmage, 1TD and 1FUM in 2023.

Here is an article on NBC Sports that talks about Fields returning kicks. Doesn't sound like it's as completely out of the question as some might assume.

Let's not forget Corderelle is 33 years old. He is far from the same guy who was an excellent kick returner (40 returns and/or 30+yds/return) any more. He had only 7 Kick Returns (no Punt Returns) in 2023, which was the lowest ever of his career. He had only 9 in 2022. Corderrelle had 153 return yards last year, which gave him an average of 21.9 per return which, again, was the lowest of his career. This guy is on the bottom end of his career ending slide. Corderelle is a surer bet to not make the opening day roster than he is to be the primary kick returner for Pittsburgh.

I don't know if Fields is going to be that guy, but I'm almost certain it will not be a 33 year old Corderelle.

I don't think it's likely Fields returns kicks/punts, but I don't think it's out of the question for him to be considered for return duties. Tomlin has had Fields in the facility and he's seen Fields make decisions and make throws up close and personal. Tomlin is also no fool. He knows he does not want Fields on the field playing QB full time.
