Team Review (transition from rebuild to contending)

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Team Review (transition from rebuild to contending)

Postby rsadynasty » Tue Mar 12, 2024 1:59 pm

Format: 12T 1QB start 11 (1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 4 FLEX).

Team:
QBs: Anthony Richardson, Trevor Lawrence, Kirk Cousins
RBs: Derrick Henry, Aaron Jones, Emari Demercado, Chris Rodriguez, DeWayne McBride, Kevin Harris, TDP, James Robinson
WRs: Amon-Ra, Garrett Wilson, 1.01/MHJ, Tee Higgins, Jordan Addison, Jaxon-Smith Njigba, Rashid Shaheed, Parker Washington, Greg Dortch, Russell Gage, Mecole Hardman
TEs: Dalton Schultz, Luke Musgrave, Cade Otton

Picks
2024: 1.01, 1.11, 2.03, 3.01, 3.04, 3.11
2025: 2 1sts, 1 2nd, 3 3rds, 1 4th
2026: 2 3rds, 1 4th

I'd love to get your feedback on what moves I should make, if any. I posted this a few days ago and since then have turned the 2.01, 2.04, 2.12, 26 2nd, and A.T Perry into a 25 1st, Derrick Henry, 3.01, 25 3rd, and 26 3rd. This will be my first year contending coming out of a two year rebuild.

From my perspective, I probably could use a little more RB depth. Maybe 1 more starter and/or some handcuffs. Also possibly a cheap veteran producer like Tyler Lockett for example. I'm also a bit weary on having traded my 26 1st and 2nd to get here, so if you see an opportunity to get a 26 1st or 2nd back please feel free to share.

Thank you in advance!

I’d probably be looking to get TE help. Some more rb depth as you mentioned would also be good. If this is 1QB, I’d see what you can get for TLaw. AR should be solid and Kirk is a fine backup clause
12 team. PPR. QB pass td = 6
Starters: QB(1) FLEX (RB/WR/TE)(2) RB(2) WR(3) TE(1)

QB: AR, DJones
RB: Gibby, Charb, KMiller, Akers
WR: Chase, Lamb, G Wilson, Tank Dell, Burks, Mimsy, Tutu, W Robinson, Tucker, Wicks, RBell
TE: DNjoku, Hunter Henry

Draft Picks: 2024: 1.2, 1.5, 1.11. 2025: 1st Round (2) 2nd Round (1), 2026: 1st Round (1) 2nd Round (2)

Going to have a hard time competing without a few more usable bodies. That’s a deep league, I’d target some older WRs (lockett was a good example) and rbs. Do qbs get any value in your league? Trading Lawrence wouldn’t be a bad idea if so.

Would also shop the 1.11 and your 25 1st for sure and even the 1.01 just to see if anyone wants to blow you away for it. Deep league = less value to any single piece so if someone wants to pay up it’s worth exploring.

@Jrblaha No our league doesn't value QBs. Honestly I don't hate having at least 2 good ones though, that way I can play matchups week to week. 3rd QB is for insurance more or less.

About the TEs, how would you recommend I upgrade? I feel like Schultz is a decent starter this year so don't know what would make the difference. It's not a TEP league.

That's more or less what I was thinking of doing, thanks! Maybe sending a couple future 3rds for veterans or something too

I don’t love Schultz as a TE1 personally, but if your league doesn’t value QBs, I’m not sure the best route, as TLaw would be my number1 trade candidate with your roster makeup.

And I get liking having the flexibility of quality QBs, but how often are you gonna start TLaw with AR and Kurt also around? To me I’d rather have more starter points and I’d at least see if someone was interested in him for TE/RB help or even a WR since you have so many flexes

Draft Picks: 2024: 1.2, 1.5, 1.11. 2025: 1st Round (2) 2nd Round (1), 2026: 1st Round (1) 2nd Round (2)

I see this team a little differently. I don't think -- as is -- it can compete in 2024. You need too many things to go right: Richardson to ball out (and stay healthy), both Henry and Jones to ball out (and stay healthy), ARSB and Wilson to ball out (and stay healthy), MJH to be a beast his rookie year, Higgins to find peace somewhere (and ball out), one or your TEs to take a huge jump, and then find four (!!) more flex-worthy players. I just don't see it with your team as is. (Not that your team is bad!!! I just don't a 'ship as likely in 2024 given what you have.)

I know that you've been (re)building, and you're excited to have a competitive year. But if your team isn't quite ready yet, then I wouldn't force it too early.

So I see two options:

I. Trade future picks.
Use all your future ammo to get more win-now players. Probably the same with most of your draft picks -- likely even trading 1.01. I think you can use all those assets and get some high-quality players at RB, WR, and TE to round out your roster and make a legit run.

II. Trade away Henry and A Jones (and maybe some other players you're not as high on).
I know you just acquired Henry; not a bad price at all. It might be worth trading him and Jones (and some other players you don't love) if you're not really making a run in 2024. Then you'll have even more draft capital in 2025 and 2026 to fill our your roster and make a real run next year.
