Saquon vs JSN for an aging champion team?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Saquon vs JSN for an aging champion team?

Postby Mr. Wizard » Sat Feb 17, 2024 3:19 pm

I won my league this past season with a very, very all-in, aging, expensive (salary cap league) roster. It worked, but I’ve got an eye on the horizon and wondering if I should run it back or start pivoting hard. I already had to dump Alvin Kamara for a late 2nd to get my books straightened out, though he was a bit superfluous in my lineup. As it stands right now, my lineup would be:

Mahomes + Burrow
Saquon + Gibbs + Henry
Tyreek + Chase + Aiyuk + Kupp
Pitts/Njoku

I feel like if Saquon and Henry get reasonably favorable spots, there might be a shot to gun for the repeat. That said, it’s still an aging lineup in several spots, and I had one guy float the option of moving Saquon for JSN, plus or minus some change. I think this is an appealing option if I want to pivot, but I feel like losing Saquon makes me so perilously thin at RB (I can add in the offseason via free agency but the options are usually not terribly compelling) that I’m probably throwing in the towel on truly contending.

Think I should ride it out or make the move?

i ride it out or go for the rebuild there is no in between IMHO. I like this team and would run it again no reason not too, the goal is to be in position to win not always build.

I actually kind of enjoy “pivoting” and staying good while flipping things constantly — I’ve never missed the playoffs in this league that way, so I do kind of live in the middle to an extent — but I can’t decide if JSN is just too early on to step in and contribute to my team in the way that Barkley can.

I don’t play contract leagues so that might figure in somewhere. But value alone probably close does he bring Barkley scoring in doubt it but that depends where Barkley is and what they do in Seattle so it’s all risky i can see it

Not sure exactly how your league's contract structure works but I'd imagine that JSN entering year 2 has to give you a lot more financial flexibility than Saquon entering year 7. As much I don't like the idea of giving up Barkley in a win now build, I think the deal is one you'll probably be happy you made a year or 2 from now.

If you think you absolutely need Barkley to win this year then I'd hold him and go for it. But if you can get younger and cheaper and still have a chance this year I don't hate the move either.

Not moving Barkley for jsn on win now team. However I was never on the jsn bandwagon. He would be my 6th best wr in this draft (judging him as prospect).
