Trade advice

Postby PRESS50 » Wed Jan 31, 2024 9:05 am

For team sig2 below

I have a pretty soild roster core below and a ton of picks for the upcoming draft. I am drafting MHJ 1.1 but I am light on rb’s I contacted the owner who has both breece and bijan and he doesn’t want to trade them and I also contacted gibbs owner and he is not moving gibbs. What do you think I should do then? Should I just use the picks and draft bpa and grab a bunch of rookie rbs or shop for a different rb via trade? Thanks

Shop as the offseason moves along but wait for the rookie hype to kick in like it does every year. It's so early, there is no reason to focus on any direction right now or who to pick. Let it play out, shop, and don't force any picks if you end up holding them all if returns are not right.

I would look to trade a TON of 2024 picks for future years in your case. Your team is mostly young and talented -- you don't have a ton of dead roster spots. And some will be filled by players you pick.

I agree that RB is your weakest spot right now. Absent getting the guys you're targeting, I'd much rather let the off-season and season evolve. Maybe some of your RBs step up? Maybe you find the 2024 version of Kyren Williams? And, if not, you'll have all the future picks at your disposal from having traded back. Perhaps in November the Hall or Gibbs owner will be in a different place. Or CMC. Or maybe a resurgent veteran could be had.

TL;DR -- If you can't get the players you're targeting, given your strong roster and slew of picks, I'd try to trade back in to 2025/2026 to give you much more opportunities to make trades in-season if necessary. (And, if not, then you're well stocked moving forward!)

I dont think its ever a good idea to address running back until close to the start of the season. Let free agency, the draft and even most of training camp play out before swapping assets for the most volatile, injury plagued position. Think Ken Walker and the Seahawks drafting Charbs. Even a rookie who performed great had his situation changed overnight.

Maybe try to target like an Etienne. In this shallow of a league I would try to package up picks and return a stud. Sounds like you tried this for some of the young studs, but I would keep working this angle. Another route is to try to trade for some older vets with those later first (Barkley, Jacobs etc)

I agree here. You seriously need to look at the amount of spots you are willing to use for 2024 rookies and then come up with a plan to get to that number but trading 2024 picks or players for future picks. As GS said you have plenty of time now to do this assessment. The quicker you can act on this the better.
