Trade AJB away for Breece?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trade AJB away for Breece?

Postby Randomguess » Fri Jan 12, 2024 7:11 am

It's 1/2 PPR and we only have to start 1 RB and have two flex (non QB) spots.
My current RBs and WRs:
RBs: JT, Javonte, Swift, Dobbins
WRs: Chase, Lamb, AJB, Kupp, Addison, Deebo, DK, Ridley

JT will likely be fine next year and for several years. My WRs are loaded but I often have the (fortunate) problem of not knowing who to start. Breece Hall is the guy I'd like to add. Would you trade away AJB for Breece and if so, does the trade value seem reasonable? I view their value as similar. Obviously WRs have a longer career and are less risky for injuries.

They should be valued pretty similarly and is a toss up imo. With your current build and having so many wrs, it would be good to have someone behind JT you can trust. Your other rbs could also be startable next year, but they could also all be rb2s/3s

With those starting requirements, I'm not sending AJB for Hall unless I'm getting something back. Shelf life on RBs is just too short. Note: I love Hall and think he's the RB2 for dynasty. But since you only have to start one, I'm passing.

tough call, think I'd hold and trade a "lesser" WR later in the season for more of a rental RB if the need arose

My team:
QB: Lawrence, Stafford
RB: JT, Swift, Javonte, Z White, Dobbins
WR: Chase, Lamb, AJB, Kupp, Ridley, Deebo, DK, Addison
TE: Hock, Andrews, Laporta

His team:
QB: Fields, Goff
RB: Hall, ETN, Achane, R White
WR: Diggs, Keenan, Amari, KJ Osborn, Sutton
TE: Chig, Henry

He has the 1.11. I have the 1.10

With all that, would you hold still. Or, who on top of Hall would you ask for? Thanks

I think I'm still holding. But I see why it's good for you on roster construction. I'd rather wait an make a deal closer to the season. AJB isn't going to lose any value.

The value seems fair both ways overall but slightly with Brown in a start 1 RB format. If you prefer Hall, I would not add. Brown feels safer long term due to WR projected self life versus RB but over the next couple of years, both are elite options and fair one to one based on preference and how you prefer to build your core.

I'm not sure how well AJB will age given his body type, early-career injury history, and age. In other words, I'd have a hard time projecting either AJB or Hall as having massive value after the next 2-3 years. Each could, but I don't think the WR-ages-better-than-RB axiom applies in this situation.

So looking at the next 2-3 years, I'd give an edge to Hall in terms of projected points scored. Like above, WRs are typically more reliable and predictable than RBs, but I think AJB has some real variance that accompanies him. Don't get me wrong: I LOVE AJB! If I can get equivalent value for him, though, it's something I'd explore. And Hall is better value.

With your league, I don't think you told us yet how many WRs you are required to start. If it's 2 or fewer, then this becomes Hall very easily for me. If it's 3, then I'd give the slight lean to Hall but could go either way.

One final thought: though I usually like to keep trades more simple and neat, I wonder if you could offer Swift and get maybe Sutton back (Allen or Amari is probably too ambitious). That would help balance your roster a bit given the 1RB format.

We have to start 2 WRs and a flex can be a 3rd WR. I agree with everything you said. I will offer Brown and Swift for Hall and Sutton. Thank you - very valid points and well thouht out.

I would over AJB for Hall and maybe add a 2nd for Sutton, but I prefer Swift way over Sutton. That TD rate is unsustainable. He's older than you think.

FWIW, I'm not insistent on the Swift/Sutton part. I'd be find doing AJB for Hall. I thought this might be a way to boost up the perceived value of the offer since I don't think Swift is ever really going to crack the lineup in this league setting -- he's closer to end-of-the-bench than starter in this format. Since I agree that Swift's value is higher, this could seal the deal quickly.

And, while Sutton's age and TD rate are troubling, he's also and end-of-bench-guy. I'd be happy to add the players to get the AJB/Hall swap done.

So maybe that's the play: start with AJB for Hall. If needed, add Swift/Sutton?
