JT for Kyren+

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

JT for Kyren+

Postby epsilonindi » Thu Nov 30, 2023 10:04 am

Semi-contender (4th of 16 in scoring, 9-3 but behind a runaway leader), contemplating sending an offer to give up JT and receive Kyren plus.

Our league operates under a unique salary cap: player salaries increase 10% every year, so higher-salary players get richer faster. I have enough buffer to afford Breece/JT/Bijan through next year, but after that I'll have to trade one (probably JT, since he's most expensive). Kyren is cheaper, so I can keep him longer, but I still want to get fair value. The other owner (not a contender) has a ton of picks, I'm thinking about Kyren + Diontae/CWatson + a 2nd (Dotson, my WR3, has been disappointing so far). Fair(ish) value, should I ask for more, or is this too much?
Team 1: 16-team dynasty, non-PPR, 20-man roster, $450 salary cap (w/o contracts) with salaries that increase 10% every year.
Starters: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, K, DST

QB: Lamar Jackson ($23), Mac Jones ($15), Jake Browning ($10), Jameis Winston ($10)
RB: Bijan Robinson ($36), Breece Hall ($29), Zack Moss ($19), Justice Hill ($11)
WR: Ja'Marr Chase ($29), CeeDee Lamb ($32), Chris Olave ($21), Jahan Dotson ($21), Rashod Bateman ($20), Kendrick Bourne ($10)
TE: Dalton Schultz ($12), David Njoku ($30), Juwan Johnson ($11), Jonnu Smith ($10)
Taxi: QB Jake Haener, RB Chris Brooks, WR Dontayvion Wicks, WR Derius Davis, TE Brenton Strange

2022 Runner-up, 2023 Champion

2024 picks: Rd 1, Rd 2, Rd 3, Rd 5
2025 picks: Rd 1, Rd 3, Rd 5 (x2)
2026 picks: Rd 1, Rd 2, Rd 3, Rd 4, Rd 5

Looks like you have a solid team in a 16 team format. Having Taylor, Hall, Robinson, Chase, Lamb, and Jackson for a push next year is a great place to be. Williams is a bit tough to judge long term fair or not, so I would error on the side of caution and hold outside of a really good add.

This deal makes sense, but Kyren is a hot commodity, and I don't see someone giving up those other pieces in addition to him to get a high-contract JT.

For 2023 alone in a redraft league, Kyren > JT.

Presuming Kyren's contract is under $10, then in 2024 Kyren at his contract >>> JT at his. There'd would be a gap between the two players' contracts of more than Bijan cost. In other words, you could buy your JT replacement next year with the money you'd save. So you're ahead of the game even if Kyren never plays football after 2023. And if Kyren does remain the starter, then it's a landslide win.

TL;DR -- In this format, Kyren alone (presuming a relatively cheap contract) >>> JT.

this is certainly the safe way to go (and probably the smartest), but i think if you wanted to take a chance on Williams you should do it.

I feel I should be able to get more for Taylor than just Kyren from somebody else, but after reading some responses here perhaps just Kyren + the WR is a more fair valuation than also adding picks. Thanks everyone.
