Puka Nacua

I'm all about unloading Puka (if I had a share). There are so many variables that can change his value which is really high at the moment.
* Teams could start covering more... how will he do against double, etc
* Stafford seems locked in on him but that could change quickly with a QB change via retirement or trade (rumors that they tried to trade Stafford this offseason)
* Kupp coming back
* Higher pedigree WR gets drafted next season

For all of those reasons, I'm pulling the trigger on a first or a guy like Olave (mentioned above) or something really good. I think he's a great hold for 2023 though and can't fault you if you want to use him as such. Even if he takes a backseat to Kupp in a few weeks, we saw Robert Woods thrive as the #2 there.

Last Wednesday, I offered a guy Puka + Flowers for Olave.
He did not respond, so 30 minutes prior to early game kickoff, I pulled the offer (I don't like taking injury risks on trades).

Last night, after Puka's big game, he is asking me where that offer went, now he wants to take it.
Only thing is, after Puka seeing 35 targets in the first 2 games now, I am not sure that I want to offer it again.

I don't think I have ever seen a rookie WR get 35 targets and 50+ fantasy points in his first 2 games in the NFL.
Not sure what we have here in Puka, could wind up being a top big slot WR like Kupp or Keenan Allen.
Could even be Kupp's eventual replacement.

After 1 week I thought it was an illusion, after 2 weeks, he might be the real deal.

Maybe see if you can deal Puka for olave without including flowers

As for comps, best comps are Landry and boldin. The big difference being they were 2nd round picks and Puka not.

Don’t wanna take anything away from him but I have no clue why the Niners played off literally all game and gave him countless free releases and easy opportunities. Seems like they didn’t think LA had a chance short of a few big plays.

Stafford is playing great, but without a vertical threat, it feels like only a matter of time before this passing attack gets locked down.

I think people some who missed out on Amon-Ra are trying not to make that same mistake, and this feels sort of like that.

As DD noted, it's interesting, because Puka doesn't really have any elite athletic trait or skill. He's 6'2/210 and has an 83rd percentile breakout though. So, that's maybe something.

Something I came around to quite quickly with Puka's profile - his 3.53 yards per route run was the second-highest mark in college football last year, as was his 90.1 PFF receiving grade. There were some signs that this might be possible, if you were looking in the right places.

As for him not having an elite trait or skill - I'm ready to push back on that a little. He's got NFL size, and it is clearly translating - he's borderline as big as some of the linebackers out there, and he plays physical as all hell. Elite? Probably not. Enough to play the position? Clearly, yes.

I think he's legit too, especially in a system like McVay's that is one of the best at utilizing WRs. But, I don't think he's legit in the sense of the usage matching to the talent, which is what would steer me away from buying. Amon-Ra had that narrative as well and has held up, so we won't know for a while.

Kid looks legit. Congrats to anyone who drafted him. I feel like a ton of his receptions are on in-breaking routes, though don't have data, but the kid is balling. Great story, day 3 WR, this is what Dynasty is about. Trade him, hold him, regardless, good on anyone who took him. I didn't even scout him, TBH.

Atwell and Nacua look like 2 nice picks for this offense, for the future.
