Are you actually capable of having a discussion about Brock Purdy without mentioning Trey Lance?

I scraped Trey Lance off the bottom of my shoe in a startup. I have essentially no investment. I have him on 1/5 of my teams. It has nothing to do with Trey Lance. I also own Purdy in 1/5 of my leagues.

Stop derailing the thread please. I have made several football related posts involving Brock Purdy, but you chose to derail. I have already disproven whether or not I have a bias. I have no stake in this race.

I will just report the derailing at this point. Hopefully somebody wants to engage in a football related discussion and responds to my post explaining my position.

Purdy is playing in a difficult position.
The expectation is to win in the regular season, win playoff games and win the Super Bowl. SF already proven they are capable of getting to the Super Bowl. They drafted Trey Lance for 2 reasons, 1 Garoppolo couldn't be trusted to stay healthy, 2 they wanted a QB that was capable of making a play on his own, when needed, in a big spot to win a big game.

Super Bowl or Bust. What happens if Purdy Bust this year? And his bust is merely struggling in regular season for a few games or a playoff lost.

What about this post below was derailing or inappropriate? Maybe you should start holding other people accountable for the state of this forum.

I don't dislike him. Purdy 2022 was one of the coolest stories I've ever seen in football. He honestly has my respect 100%

Having said that, I'm still not sold he is a long term starter. He was (almost) undrafted for a reason, had a serious injury, has a small sample size. Once teams get more film on him and gamelan against him he will have to play outside his comfort zone, and my gut says he's not cut out for it.

I don't value backup QBs as much in SF, as they are a dime a dozen. Whether or not you want to wait on Lance would depend how big rosters are imo. In my 35 player league, Lance is a must acquire for me.

Yeah, fair assesment. With larger roster sizes, makes sense to roster more backup QB's in a SF.

If you listen to the talking heads, the best QB in SF isn't Purdy OR Lance. It's Sam Darnold...whomst we have 5 years worth of tape/stats to suggest he's not good

Geno had twice as much tape indicating he was not very good. People can improve.

I'm a believer in Darnold. He's never going to be the face of the NFL, but I think he can certainly be an overall QB13 by stats in real world NFL. I can definitely see Darnold leading SF to the playoffs. I can definitely see Darnold signing and starting next year in LAR/TB/ATL/MINN/DEN if their QB situations take a turn for the worse.

If I had Darnold in SF, I'd hold and hope. If I didn't have him, I think it's wise to acquire him at a reasonable price, depending on roster size.

A) Geno had twice the tape? He started 34 games over the 8 years prior to the 2022 season in SEA. Darnold has started 55 games in 5 years

B) Either way, Geno's gotta be an all-time outlier, no?

Not saying guys can't improve. Just surprised by the amount of hype he's been getting with the media. Maybe that's more of a reflection of how messy the SF quarterback situation is than anything else
