On the Clock at 1.12 and 2.02. What to do?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

On the Clock at 1.12 and 2.02. What to do?

Postby Avery » Sat Aug 19, 2023 1:50 pm

Team 1 below.

Just traded back into the first round (used my first round pick in the offseason as part of a deal for Waller).

There are more guys here that I like than I thought might be here due to LaPorta, Rice and Spears going higher than I thought they would. So on the clock now and again in 1 pick - one pick between my picks.

So here are the guys I like:
Anthony Richardson - Konami code QB. Lance is my backup so wouldn't mind having one who is actually starting games.
De'Von Achane - Might not be an every down player but fewer and fewer running backs are and it is a great match of skillset and team.
Kendre Miller - Other guy I have in the next tier of RBs. May have to wait a year or two on him.
Marvin Mims Jr. - Top WR left for me and Payton traded up to get him.
Roschon Johnson - Has been showing out in pre-season in an unsettled RB room.

I know in a 1QB league, Richardson isn't a "smart" pick, but he I far and away BPA here. Thinking about grabbing him, and a RB at 2.02 but also thinking about grabbing my favorite RB now and seeing what happens at 2.01 before 1 pick again.

Also note, not getting into the depth of the contract league, but it becomes a bit more important for players to show earlier.

Would love to hear y'all's advice. Thanks!

IMO, Richardson is a no-brainer, smash pick here. I'll defer to others for their preference about the second one.

I'd probably grab Richardson here, and then Kendre if possible at 2.02. Or reverse that, but I'm okay with Achane as a fallback (despite his size, I'm coming around given Dynasty Daloroian's analysis).

Miller and Johnson with the picks are nice value overall with the Johnson hype. If you like Richardson though, take your guy and grab Miller too.

I wouldn't say Richardson is "my guy" and even if he was, Lance was "my guy" too!

Anyway, Achane just got taken off on a cart so maybe I shouldn't draft him...

Hard to say. His QBs are Mac Jones and Tua so he could go Rich, but he also has Kamara so I can see he grabbing Miller, knowing how he has drafted is the past.

I'm leaning into taking Richardson and then Miller or Johnson... whomever is left. Still

Welp. Took Richardson after Achane got hurt and the next guy up took Young so all my options still on the table.

Because of shorter benches and the contracts constraints, a bit more important for players to hit quicker. Because of that I was leaning in Achene. Now wit the injury, I'm leaning into the upside of Miller... or maybe trading back a spot or two and grabbing Johnson.

Feeling very indecisive here... but currently leaning into Miller. Wished he has looked better so far...

if he had, he wouldn't be an option at 2.02.

you know your league better of course (if it doesn't encourage holding rookies it's a bit counterintuitive for dynasty but i digress), if you want someone that hits quick to sell him on, roschon is getting some hype, though i'm not a big fan of his and i'm not sure if he has a clearer path to playing time. miller should play quite a bit in the first three weeks and for me he is a LOT more talented than johnson.

I may have overstated that it isn't worth holding rookies, just with pretty limited benches and a limited contact cap it's tough to wait years and years for someone to show. But that doesn't mean rookies shouldn't be held.

Achene was a pretty polarizing guy even before the draft due to his size... or lack thereof. I think his landing spot moved him up.

So I don't want to overreact to preseason, but I do want to react somewhat.

I also tend to pay attention to draft capital as I usually feel NFL teams know better than me and draft capital usually means opportunity.

These are all the things running though my busy mind this Sunday AM...
