Longterm plan for my team?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Longterm plan for my team?

Postby gunfrees » Fri Jun 16, 2023 9:51 am

With some great luck (and one specific owner) I am now in the possession of multiple firsts over the next few years, and am looking for advice on how to proceed

*My team seems to be a low level playoff contender as the league has 3 top level teams visibly better than mine (but no picks in the future as a result)

------------
12 team dynasty | SF | 1 ppr

QBs: Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson
WRs: Deebo, Godwin, Mbrown, JDowns
RBs: Chubb, Gibbs, Achane, K. Miller
TE: Goedert, Okonkwo

2024 1st, 1st
2025 1st, 1st, 1st, early 1st, early 2nd (the owner has no picks and a very old/mediocre team at present)
2026 early 1st, 1st
----------

Looking at my options:
Upgrade WR - Most top 10 receivers are held by the 3 best teams who are all-in and have rejected offers (atleast for now)
Upgrade RB - As my main picks are all in 2025 I don't want to upgrade for a chance at contention (atleast not before season)
Upgrade TE - Goedert for the next 2-3 years seems fine to me at the moment
Upgrade QB - Mahomes/Allen/Lawrence/Herbert owners have rejected as unsure on Watson's future performance

My team feels like an early round exit team, so would the best course of action be to wait 2-3 years and draft eventual starters (the league leaves a lot of value in drafts) or go another direction?
12 team dynasty | SF | 1 ppr

QBs: Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson, Kirk Cousins
WRs: Deebo, Godwin, Mbrown, JDowns
RBs: Chubb, Gibbs, Achane, K. Miller
TE: Okonkwo, Mayer

2024 1.03, 1.09
2025 early 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, early 2nd, 2nd
2026 early 1st, 1st, early 2nd

to go all in right now means to give up some of them 1sts bro. no way around it. you need WR and 1 RB for sure. You are right on the cusp so it's up to you, go all in now or start tearing it down. You 2025 draft will be great but you will have to spend it on a RB and TE (at least)
Team 1

With your build and current amount of 1st rd picks in the next several years I'm looking "long" term here. Once Chubb has a few big games I'm moving him asap. Possibly the same for Godert, he turned 28 in Jan, so if you can land some quality young te's I'd be open to moving him. You have two qb's, but need depth behind them. The same thing with Deebo at wr. But with both qb's it comes down to how you feel about them long term. Can LJax stay healthy, produce as a passer when he "slows down"? Will Watson return to form, could another issue present itself and he be out of the league. If you are worried about either I'm moving them and trying to earn the 1.1 for next year.

With holding the picks you do and looking more long term, I would be shopping your older assets and focusing on building around your future picks and youth. Your team is not bad, but I don't think you have the pieces to push for a title and Samuel, Godwin and Chubb will continue to drop in value if nothing else because of age. I would not force any deals now as all three players should be putting up numbers in season and your return on vets is likely better once they are producing. Shop, wait for the right return, and keep building.

All good responses, definitely leaning rebuild now - how much would you take for Chubb or deebo? Would 2 firsts be enough for Chubb and 1+ for deebo?

If you can get 2 firsts for Chubb take that and start trying to sell other pieces to the top teams.

Definitely. Players like Chubb are usually worth more in season, but this is a good haul as long as you’re not waiting years for one of those 1sts.

If long term is the plan though, I’d also look to see what you could get for L. Jackson. He’s been getting banged up lately and is likely at peak value right now. Young QBs (or more stable QBs) would be good, or a slight down-tier to someone like Burrow.

First trade so far:

Give: Goedert, (K. Hunt + P. Nacua)
Receive: Mayer, Treylon Burks, 2025 2nd, early 2026 2nd

This is probably the best trade I’ll get as it’s the same owner i’ve gotten all the firsts from - I’m aiming for a 1st for deebo/godwin and maybe 2 for chubb, but we’ll see

I don't think Lamar is at peak value - I firmly believe he will come out very hot at the beginning of the season (as always), and you will see an increase in value and interest.

If I could get 2 firsts for Chubb, he would be gone from my team. No matter if I'm a contender or not.

Add me to those advocating for a 2024-25 run. Your team is good enough to try to manufacture a win-now effort but it would require a couple of players to exceed 2023 expectations and you'd have to sell draft capital to acquire a couple of win-now players.

I'd rather plan for a 2024 run. I'd try to trade Chubb, Deebo and Godwin for 1sts in either '24 or '25. By the '24 draft, you'll have a better idea about youngsters like Achane/Kendra/Gibbs/Downs. A couple of them should be good enough to be '24 starters for you. After you add three or four '24 first rounders to your roster, you should be in a position to contend in '24 - maybe not realistically be favored against the top 2 teams in your league, but you should not be far behind. Then when you add all those '25 firsts to your roster you'll be ready to take off and be a top contender for a few years.

I was also looking at achane, miller, and others thinking “i might be better than I thought by 2025” - the only issue is one rebuilder has 5 firsts in 2024 and the rest are with league mates who won’t trade them.

As of now I have a contenders 25 1st and (my) 25 2nd for chubb on the table so i’ll look into the 24s before taking it as it’s a good idea for sure

Echoing what others have said to stay with the rebuild. You are doing a great job acquiring assets and building up your stockpile of picks.

Can you invest in a rookie or young TE, who will hopefully coming into his own when your team is ready to dominate? Kincaid, Pitts, Dulich, or Laporte would all be people I would try to get now.

Where should your 24 1sts land?

I’m happy with Okonwko and Mayer as high upside guys at the moment - TEs in this league are usually undervalued so I’m not worried on that side

I have my 2024 first (expected to be top 3) and a contenders first who will likely be between 1.6-1.11 (he has no qb2 but solid vets)
