Did I overpay for Mahomes?

12 team SF Startup league. I had 1.07 and took burrow. 1.01 was shopping mahomes from the get go and I just pulled the trigger on a pricy deal to lock up the burrow/mahomes qb duo. What do you think,

Gave: Startup 2.06, 3.06, 7.06, ‘24 and ‘25 rookie 1st, ‘24 and ‘25 rookie 2nd
Got: Mahomes, Startup 5.12, 6.01

He took CMC at 2.06 for what it’s worth. I figure this helps me commit to a win now build and I’ll just target vet value, and there should be some good pieces there at the 5/6 turn, but I’m getting roasted in the chat.

Looking at March ADP, that 5/6 turn is players like Chubb, Godwin, Stevenson, Kittle, Dobbins, etc. I’d say two of those guys should be roughly equal to the future picks you gave up.

That leaves Mahomes for 2.06 (I’ll call it Waddle or Tua), 3.06 (Olave/Daniel Jones), and 7.06 (Pickett/Pickens).

I’d rather have Mahomes. I think it’s a fine trade. Nothing to get roasted about.

Edit: I spaced off they already took CMC at 2.06, but doesn’t change my thought process. Lol

It feels pricey but you have to put actual players to the picks once they are known and I sm guessing you will be pleased with Mahomes instead. Mahomes and Burrow is a great build pillar for you moving forward regardless.

Honestly, I'd take Mahomes alone over the package.

There's a real chance Mahomes + Burrow can make you competitive right away, make your 1st-round future picks late. If the rest of your team implodes, though, it would suck with value, but Mahomes and Burrow are young enough that you can ride them through a couple of lean years. Still, I'd take Mahomes over the package.

And getting back 5.12 and 6.01 should help you with a win-now roster. I'm willing to bet a couple of good productive vets will be there while others are chasing youth. Perfect for you.

I actually think you smashed this trade. You moved in multiple rounds and got to the 1.01 for the price of basically giving up picks two and three drafts out plus only moving back from 3.06 to 5.12. Home run deal for you imo.

You moved up from 2.06 to 1.01
Moved back from 3.06 to 5.12
Moved up from 7.06 to 6.01
Gave up a 2024 1st, 2025 1st & 2nd

I think this trade is cheap provided that you field a competitive team. Without your future firsts I would definitely shade towards current production over future potential.

Depends on the starting positions for me. If this is a deep league (devaluing any single asset + placing an importance on depth), I don’t like moving all that future capital. If shallow I like it quite a bit. If 9/10ish starters I think it’s an evenish trade, Mahomes is an expensive player to acquire and for good reason.
