Lamar vs Herbert

Postby Finfansteve » Mon Jan 23, 2023 11:24 am

I was able to trade for Herbert this season just to back up Lamar in case of injury (which ended up happening) but now I have two premium assets in a ten team start 1 QB league. I don’t really want to have two qb’s I’d rather use the roster spot on one of the other positions where I also have a wealth of talent and don’t want to cut any of those players either (it’s a keeper league not dynasty). I should also mention that I have tua as well and will be trying to move him this off-season.

Who would you folks think I should keep and try to move the other? There’s 2-3 teams that need a qb in my opinion so I’ll be aggressive moving a qb or two to those teams this off-season but I’m trying to figure out who should be my QB moving into the future
Qb: Hurts, geno Smith
Rb: JT, Gibbs, Montgomery, Roschon, Z. White, Ty Chandler
Wr: AJB, JJ, Chase, waddle, G Wilson
TE: Pitts, Kincaid, Likely, Njoku

2024 1.01, 1.04, 1.05
10 team
9 players kept yearly
Non PPR
Not super flex
Start 1/1/2/1/2 flex
1 point per first down
All tds 6 points

I prefer Herbert of the two. But I’d be fine trading whichever brought me the better return. Especially since it isn’t full dynasty.

I would shop both and see which QB brings in the best return for what you are hoping for. Let the return dictate which asset you move.

Having 3 QB's in a 10 team 1 QB format is not going to work well in a trade scenario. You don't have a ton of leverage. Long term I would prefer the QB that doesn't depend on his legs, so I would shop Lamar. Tua is going to stay your back up because you can't get any kid of value for him as is.

I’ll probably just cut him if I can’t trade him which is a real possibility

Herbert is the QB to hold here.
Before cutting Lamar, I would offer him around for anything at all, even a 3rd round pick is something.

I'd trade any of them in a 10-team 1qb keeper league. I'd guess Herbert would be the easiest to trade so he's the one I would trade. I wouldn't mind starting either Lamar or Herbert so I have no preference of keeping one over the other.

I'd keep Herbert and Lamar. One is a steady option, but you cant ignore that the other, if healthy is able to put up better numbers solely based on his rushing upside. Anything else is overkill in 1QB. Moving QBs in 1QB is way too hard because somehow everyone thinks they hold no value. If you cant move Tua, move Lamar. If you cant move either, move neither. Maybe target a player that needs a QB and is able to afford to make a multiple player/pick deal. Tua + RB for better RB. and so on.

Maybe. I think the bigger question for the OP is, if he can't trade Lamar, should he trade Herbert and pick up something of value? Or should he hold Herbert and cut one or even two of his three rostered QBs? Even if Herbert>Lamar, should he cut Lamar if he can't trade Lamar for an asset, or should he hold Lamar (because he can't trade him) and trade Herbert? I think the answer in that scenario is to trade Herbert, but I figure there are others who would not trade Herbert in that situation.

I think it will be difficult to trade Tua for much of anything in a 1QB league.
