I'd argue he's a key player for their team and offense. Not to the level Bosa is, but someone they certainly wold want to keep.

Re: Purdy vs Lance 2023
Purdy is cheaper, but they clearly do not have a franchise QB and they are in win now mode. If they win it all with Purdy, then I'm sure it's less likely. But, if you have a win-now team with all this talent on both sides of the ball, I'd absolutely be trying to see if there's a way to bring in Rodgers or Brady.FantasyFreak wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 6:31 amPurdy is 40 times cheaper though, you have to factor in what you could do with the extra 30 million in cap space if you keep Purdy over Rodgers. Not saying they wouldn't be better off doing it, just that it's not a 1 for 1 trade off.Cameron Giles wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 6:07 am I think there's a non-zero chance the 49ers go after a veteran QB in the offseason. This is a win-now team and they would be smart to end the debate between Purdy and Lance and bring in an unquestioned starter. I don't know how the number would work, but if they could find a way to bring Aaron Rodgers to San Francisco, they are easily the team to beat in the NFC next season.
If they don't, then I think Purdy fits the offense better.
Re: Purdy vs Lance 2023
I am not trying to be controversial, but are Rodgers and Brady better for this offense for next year? I also don't think we can say they don't have a franchise QB in Purdy. I also don't think we can say they do. However, the post season will really make this question answer itself. Purdy has the opportunity to close the window and take this team. Big ask, but the scenario is in front of him.Cameron Giles wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 9:12 amPurdy is cheaper, but they clearly do not have a franchise QB and they are in win now mode. Re: Purdy vs Lance 2023
Maybe someone is willing to pay him a massive contract in FA, but if it's in their budget, I doubt they let him walk. He's been a key part of their run game game for years, and although his pass pro isn't top end, it's definitely not bad. He fits what they are trying to do, I think they at least try and retain his services. Really depends the route they want to take at QB, though. What happens this week with Purdy will likely determine quite a bit. If he gets to the NFC title game, I think the chances only grow that he's under centre week 1 next year, and under 1 million in cap hit.bjd5211 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 8:13 amI think they let him walk either way.FantasyFreak wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 8:01 amYou'd think they would want to re-sign McGlinchey, too. Purdy holds the job.
Personally, I feel Lance isn't that good. And he's yet to do anything relevant in the NFL.
KTC has him valued around mid 2nd. I'm buying all day at that price in SuperFlex.

Re: Purdy vs Lance 2023
Because we have only seen glimpses of Lance in 2+ NFL seasons, Purdy is going to be sticking around; like others I'd believe:
- IF SF wins the SB, barring Purdy really losing control and the D/ST winning the game, he gets the reins to the team.
- IF SF loses SB, DAL, PHI/NYG, I think Lance has hope to compete for the job again. A Purdy implosion in any of these games opens that door just a little bit more.
While Purdy has made the most of this opportunity, we've also seen similar shades before with Nick Mullens, Jimmy G, and even Beathard had his moments. The guy has to control the game and make plays but having a good HC and great offensive weapons clearly have given him a lot to work with.
In May 2021 I traded my 1.04 (Lance) / 2022 1st (won the championship) for Stafford and 2023 1st (Bijan), so I'm really feeling for the Lance owner but also loving it at the same time.

Don't need to extend CMC, MUST restructure that contract though.bjd5211 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 7:52 amCMC is under contract for another 3 years, they don't need to extend him at all. No way the 49ers pay CMC $12 mil in 2023 after CMC made less than $0.7 mil in 2022.
