That is what I have seen to be the diagnosis.qazxswedcvfrtgbnhyuj wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:49 amYou're referring to commotio cordis. Would be pretty rare for someone his age, but it would definitely make sense, especially considering the tidbits of them having used an AED on him on the field, meaning it's definitely something cardiac related.Shoreline Steamers wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 10:42 pmI'd hate to speculate, or spread false information, so if there's someone with more medical knowledge that wants to chime-in that would be great. But I can say, there is a type of injury that I'm not sure exactly what it's called, but basically is the result of blunt-force trauma to the heart/chest. If you're hit hard enough there, it can literally stop your heart. A 100 mph fastball to the heart could cause the same injury.
I saw what was happening on the field before I saw the replay of the hit, and when I saw the video it's clear Higgins' chest pads and helmet slam into Hamlin's chest area pretty hard. I would not be surprised if this is eventually identified as what happened to him. Good news that his vitals are stable, and hopeful for his full recovery.
Also read that he had a small foundation in Pittsburgh that provided toys to underprivileged kids. Apparently, the site has crashed under the weight of all the donations that are pouring in tonight. Hopefully some good can come from this terrible situation.
This entire situation is just tragic beyond belief. I really hope we wake up tomorrow with better news for him.and his family.
I know nobody is thinking about fantasy right now, but I thought I'd mention 2 of my leagues have already decided to declare the championship game a tie, and to split the winnings, before hearing how the NFL handles the possible postponement of the game, if it takes place at all (though I doubt the NFL fully cancels it). Again, not important at all for real life, but it does seem fitting to me that folks don't want to "benefit" from the terrible situation that occurred.
Dr. Brian Sutterer explains.
It has to do with where you get hit + the timing of the hit in the heartbeat rhythm cycle.
