Dynasty league with only players who are sophomores and rookies

So my buddy started, what he calls it, a “legacy” league last year. We started a brand new super flex dynasty league via auction draft with only rookies (2021 class). No player who already played a down in the nfl can ever be in this league. So you can imagine some of our scores last year. 10-6 30-5 etc. lol. Anyway my team sucked and I have the 102,202 etc tonight. Where would you value Kenny Pickett in a league like this ? Since only a few starting QBs are even in this league would this make Pickett the top pick over a London or Hall? My roster is trash.

That’s basically it. So how would you draft a rookie class in a league like this ? Should riddler and Willis be going top 6/7 too?

if you are likely to earn a top pick again next year i wouldnt take pickett and force the issue when there should be multiple first round qbs to pick from next year. probably would take hall if he doesnt go first and if he does id take walker and be happy that he might not have a huge rookie year and that i will have a top pick again but still have added a great player at a hard to fill position

Good question! Very interesting format. As Ross mentioned above, I would not force a QB if you are likely an early pick next year. There will be much better options then. I would take any of the top rookies over Pickett.

All 2021 rookies were drafted in the auction start up last year. Todays rookie draft is only 2022 rookies.

I can't imagine it's a while lot of fun in football, takes years to really develop. Bball is more plug n play with less of a learning curve.

I would look at this differently. First I would consider if I want to go all in to win it this year without concern for future years. If that’s true then your goal is to target players most likely to put up points right now. That’s going to be your RBs for sure and maybe a QB like Pickett, although he may or may not even start a game this year so that’s a gamble.

Now if instead you want to build a super team for three or more years from now, then I would 100% make this draft nothing but WRs. When you think about matching peak players on a single team, usually I think like this:

When does a player hit their peak:
QB: Immediately to within 3 years
RB: Immediately to within 2 years
WR: Usually not until year 3
TE: IDK same as WR ‍♂️ (Too hit or miss)

So if you want to win right now you want Breece Hall, Walker, & Pierce.

If you want to build a future team I’d focus on WRs and TEs now, then QB next year, and finally RB in year three and hope they all hit their stride at the same time.

Of course, this is risky too. You could always just go for the best talent available and hope it all falls together in the end.

I would also be HUGE on trading picks however I could so that I get more picks in year three. If you could do things like trade back this draft to trade up next draft it’d be awesome cause if all you have are WRs from this draft and end up with a high pick later because they haven’t peaked yet and then also found ways to trade into a second or third R1 two years from now… oooo boy, then you go into the year 3 draft with two about to be stud WRs, one about to be stud QB, and multiple darts to throw in the first round when it’s time to take your RBs… just set it, forget it, ‘ship, and thophy

I also think RBs have shorter careers and shorter peak windows, so they are always the piece I want to add last. Last thing you want is to always be middle of the pack and that happens all the time to teams that have the stud RB peaking before any other piece and then when the rest of the team is finally together the RB is done. Just ask anyone that had Johnathon Taylor last year and no other elite players. They will end up drafting too late to get the top players this year, probably next year too, and then when they finally are ready for him he will be over.

I value the players the same way I would in a normal league. Eventually it essentially will be a normal league. I have picket in the same teir as olave, Pickens, Moore.

If anything this makes more more willing to draft a rb on a "rebuild team" as they will provide some nice output the first couple years.
