Zay Jones - useable fantasy asset in 2022?
Zay Jones - useable fantasy asset in 2022?
I'll admit, there were some weeks last year where I should've started Zay Jones over some more highly regarded WRs. He had a nice run towards the end of the season & passed the eye test. But then again, so did another Raider (Aghulor) in 2020 before getting a nice contract with the Patriots to do nothing.
Zay did receive a decent contract and seems to be in line to be a starter with Jacksonville. What are the chances that he's a guy on your roster who gets some use in a lineup due to injuries, bye weeks, and underpeformance of other WRs (think 2022 version of Golladay, whoever that might be).
If I didn't own him through the offseason, I've been able to grab him in round 4 of rookie/FA drafts. Behind players who might never start on Sundays. So he's practically free. And it seems like we'll know right away if he's worth holding onto. I like players who quickly reveal their worth.
Thoughts?

During last year's fantasy playoff window (weeks 15 to 17) he was the WR14, barely outscoring Diggs, and scoring more than many of the great players.

Of course Devin Aromashadu had a similar streak years back and went nowhere after that.

He had a lot of rapport with Carr. He was the guy Carr would throw to when nobody else would be there, type thing. Anytime Carr wanted to throw extra passes, Zay was there. I think it's likely another Agholor situation. I don't expect Jones to be very dependable in Jacksonville.

Agreed. Carr seemed to optimize reclamation players like Agholor and Jones. Jones probably doesn't have sky high value, so you wouldn't risk much by going after him, but I tend to think he's going to come back down to earth.FantasyFreak wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 2:29 pm He had a lot of rapport with Carr. I see Zay Jones as a complimentary NFL piece for an NFL team. He is a good player but not the guy. He will help keeping safeties off Kirk and help give Lawrence a dependable option but the offense will not go through him so he is not a valuable fantasy asset. He is probably good for a WR room in the NFL but most likely the 3rd WR option with a 50 target cap.
He is a solid NFL role player.

Maybe he can become Russell Gage, but I doubt it.
Re: Zay Jones - useable fantasy asset in 2022?
Probably nothing, Carr has been a top 12ish passer the last couple years and made these incredibly ehhhh wrs look better than they are

Also though, Kirk has not been known to stay healthy. What if he pulls up lame in pre-season? Does Zay then become the guy? Will Shenault be traded? I've seen stranger things happen. I'll probably keep him through preseason & see what happens.

Zay Jones will only serve to clog your roster. Not interested

So you're saying he's basically just Gabriel Davis?

Shots fired!
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...

Not feeling the guy, I just dropped the couple shares I had of him. I would rather go with a young prospect at this point.
