Just Traded 1.05

Just traded the 1.05 on a rebuilding team to the team that finished in the 1.02 slot this year (I ironically have that pick).

SEND: 1.05
RECEIVE: 23 1st, 3.02, 23 4th.

This is a SF, IDP, 2TE league. Start 24.

Two questions:

1. What values are you seeing out there when moving 22 1sts for 23 1sts? I feel like as long as the 1st conveyed is top-8, that this is good value.

2. How is the fit on this roster? Start 22 is all about depth. Feeling good about the future at QB & TE, so trying to build a deep enough bench to come into stride in 2023-2024. Given that it is SF and IDP, you can find starters into the 3rd round, especially on defense. Problem is that I will have to consolidate this roster quite a bit over the coming years. Plenty of fat to do so. Also, still have 3 1st rounders in 22, including 2 in the top 5.

I can't really speak to the IDP side but I would have wanted a 2nd or equivalent value on top in order to move the 2022 1st here. If the 2023 1st ends up earlier, obviously you gain value and win the deal but the secondary pieces here don't seem valuable enough to have made this deal for me. Again, maybe the IDP format really drives up the value of 3rd and 4th round picks. Time will tell here and projecting picks out can be tough. We just don't know how next year will play out.

I think you lost some value here. How much depends on where that pick ends up in 2023

I wouldnt move my first for just a third or fourth. I would want at least a second to make such a move.

This is a very good IDP class, so those 2nd-3rd rounds offer pretty good depth. I would say by 3.02 there should be 6-8 IDP off the board, so this is equivalent to a mid-second in a non IDP league. On. Offense guys in that tier with Josh Dotson, Rachaad White, David Bell and Sky Moore will still be on the board.

Having 3 top 5 picks and 4 1st rounders total in a weaker class is a gamble. It is SF. Generally you'd hope to get a franchise type QB in the top 5. Willis is QB1 and he'd be behind the T Law, Fields, Lance, and Wilson. Next year he wouldn't may not be in the top 3.

Already picking whose left of Breece and Malik at 1.02. Then get my guy out of the 3 WRs/Walker/any other QB at 1.04. I would rather parlay the 1.05 pick to next year's class. It is a much better class at QB and RB, and guys like JSN, Boutte and Addison are solid at wideout.

Nobody is willing to trade 23 1sts in most of my leagues. If you want them, you need to be a first mover. The normal calculus of "I want a second on top" may not apply this year and that's what I'm trying to flesh out.

Has anyone been successful in trading back out of a 22 1st to a 23 1st?

These are all trades I’ve made, but none result in me acquiring the ‘23 1st.

‘23 1 for CEH
‘23 1 and R Bateman for P Mahomes
‘23 2 x2 for 1.11
Albert O for 23 2 and 2.04

In standard 1Qb I’m seeing a lot of ‘23 1 = 1.09 or 1.10

On the flip side, I’ve been declined by the managers who own 1.05 through 1.09 when offering a ‘23 1, 2, and 3. I think the value says you need at least a 2 and 3 if not a bit more on top of ‘23 1.

I think this is where there's some equivocation. Standard 1QB no IDP leagues are very shallow. It's basically RB or bust.

When you're starting 22 guys including 2TEs, there is a lot more flexibility and a much higher priority on depth, so later picks have more value. For example I can see 2-3 IDP going in R1 this year.

Also, like I said above, having 3 top 5 SF picks and not being able to get a franchise type QB is rough. There just isn't that guy in this draft.

I traded away my 2022 1.05 pick about 6 weeks ago, with my 2023 1st round pick (expected to be late, 18-20 range in a 20 team league) for CeeDee Lamb.
