Update: Zach Wilson counter trade offer was accepted

I offered 2022 1.07 for Zach Wilson which I thought was a fair offer.

I get a counter and this was the offer that I rejected:

I send 2022 1.07, M.Trubisky and E.Engram.

I rejected since I felt that I was giving highest value and more assets.

Would a 2024 1st be reasonable to ask for on top on Wilson or just walk from trying to acquire Wilson?

Trubisky may outperform Z Wilson this year. But with Mitchell you have to dodge the NFL draft and hope the Steelers don't draft a QB. He's very risky and you'd lose the advantages of having a starter at QB3.

I'm guessing you want Wilson for the job security and full length of the rookie contract + the upside.

To me that's worth Mitch + the 1.07 for Z Wilson just to lock down your bye week filler/Third QB. Because I'm already treating Trubisky as a back-up.

For all we know Trubisky may start Day 1 and he doesn't have to play great for the hype to be outta control. At which point selling now is selling low.

I'd try to offer Wilson+Engram+something else and see where it goes. Otherwise need a pick coming back to throw in Mitch. Preferably a 2nd.

I think the counter was pretty fair. I’d much rather have Wilson than 1.07 in SF this year. But I can understand the hesitation some may have as well.

I think the counter was fair as well. I think people are underselling Wilson. He flashed last year and has the arm, legs, and intelligence to get better. He came from an offense that did not prep him for the pros. All he needs to do is get the ball out of his hands faster.

1.07 for Wilson is an auto-reject for most Wilson owners. You're asking the Wilson owner to reduce his QB headcount for a lotto ticket flyer that is likely to be a WR.
Since you view 1.07 over Wilson, one of you will have to significantly adjust their perceptions if there is to be a chance at a deal. Since you're the one wanting Wilson, it will likely have to be you.
For some reference, in a couple of March superflex ADP, Wilson went 3.12 and 4.03. Rookie 1.07 went 7.02 (Drake London) and 7.11 (Matt Corral). In some money league ADP (with 2 TEP), Wilson has an ADP rank of 60 with a median of 62, high of 48 and low of 68. Rookie 1.07 is at ADP rank 76 (Isaiah Spiller), median 74, high 70, low 89.

I think the counter offer is fair and still in your favor. Trubisky is not good a likely a rental or one year option in the NFL and Engram...he has a ton to prove and has had one good year. I would rather have Wilson in SF over the package you are giving pretty easily.

I like Wilson over 1.7, but the counter is slightly too much giving up on your end in my humble opinion. If it really came down to it though, I'd have no problem accepting that counter, or resending it since you declined. Engram isn't a piece id put weight on and Trubisky and 1.7 seems like a good enough price to get Wilson.
