Maybe I'm crazy but I think with Brady retiring Rodgers should just stay in GB. The NFC just became a lot easier to get through.

I’m guessing it got leaked before he had a chance to tell everyone he wanted to personally, so now he’s coming out and saying it’s not yet final. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t officially announce his retirement in the coming days.

That would be great
I don't particularly like Brady, just had enough of him. But I hate todays media more and this rush to break a story first. It would be awesome if Brady signs a 3 year deal and plays next year to spite ESPN.

eh i get it though, especially for a guy like Schefter. Like his entire job is to break news stories lol. I do think for stuff as big as Brady retiring probably could be handled a bit more delicately, but if Schefty didnt report it, someone was going to, and its a big friggin story

Reportedly he wanted to wait till after the superbowk to make an announcement to not distract from it. Might be trying to dull down leak till after that

Apparently he has a $15M signing bonus that gets paid 4Feb… pretty sure I wouldn’t retire now if waiting a week got me $25M.

That would be a very very scummy move for Brady to pull.

The owners would have 0 recourse if he does retire after this point and collects that bonus? Insane...

I'm sure that regardless of when he announces his retirement, until he signs the papers he's gonna get that bonus. I really doubt thats why he's "waiting". Most orgs would probably wait to file retirement papers just so he does get the bonus. its a bad look for a franchise otherwise, and could deter potential FA signings

It's not a scummy move. Earlier the team asked Brady to restructure his contract so they could pay other players and stay under the cap. He restructured his deal and moved money to this bonus payment date which apparently does not count against the 2021 season salary cap. Basically he's waiting to receive money he would have received already if he had not restructured his contract as TB requested.

I'm the biggest Brady hater on the planet, but this isn't a reason to hate on him. Not even if it wasn't because of a contract restructuring. I'm never going to hate on players grabbing another few million from billionaire owners if they can get it. It's not my money.

If I'm TB, I run back the script again. Pay whatever it costs in assets to get Russ or Rodgers.

The sneaky good move would be to "overpay" LV for Carr. If TB did that, managed to add a quality WR to replace Godwin, and convinced Gronk to hang on for one more year, I think Carr could have a fantastic season and lead the Bucs to the conference finals.

I mean, just imagine what Carr could do if all at the same time he had a good OL, great receivers, and a good RB. He's never had that all at the same time, and he's still outperformed his projections year after year. I honestly think Carr is a T6QB in talent+leadership+immeasurables and he only needs a better setting to shine. TB can give him all that.
