Cleveland. They aren't releasing him yet for financial implications so he'll sit the bench the rest of the season.

You mean next year? Trade deadline is over and they don't save any money by cutting him. So he either plays or sits. Next year, they can get out with no dead cap

You'd think if thing were going to end up like this they would have sold him for literally anything before the trade deadline... Now they still have to pay him while he essentially isnt playing for them, and they got nothing to show for it... at least if they sold for a 7th they would be in the same spot but with an extra pick to play with. I guess the rational could be that they didnt want to send him out and meet him in the playoffs? Either way, what a waste of money he has been for the browns. I haven't watched their games, so idk if OBJ just isnt the same guy anymore or if it is that he just isnt getting quality targets like DJ Moore last year, but this whole thing has been such a nightmare and I was so proud he wasn't lashing out on the sideline or in the media like when with was with the giants. But here we are...

As far as this season goes, I highly doubt they will drop him if they wouldn't trade him for a 7th. I dont claim to know anything about contracts or cap so I am likely wrong on this, but it looks like they can cut him after this season without penalty, maybe they look for a trade but I read there wasn't much of a market for him at the trade deadline, I doubt there will be after this. Likely cut and signed on a short cheap deal on a contender, which contender is anybody's guess... As an owner GB if Rodgers stays would be ideal and they have a huge hole there that has to be filled if they want to keep Rodgers

Remember when he was a top 5 dynasty WR in NYG? And then when he got traded to team up with Baker, his value was up even further? Crazy times

Seems like a Michael Thomas for OBJ swap would’ve been a good trade deadline deal for everyone…
12 Team Superflex - PPR, 0.25 PPC - QB/2RB/3WR/TE/Flex/Superflex
QB: L Jackson, Tagovailoa, Rodgers,l
RB: Pacheco, Spears, Ray Davis, Hubbard, Khalil Herbert, McLaughlin, Ty Chandler, Miles Sanders
WR: DeVonta, Waddle, Aiyuk, Nacua, Rashee, Keon Coleman, Pearsall, Hopkins, M Williams, Mingo, Wan’Dale, McCaffrey
TE: Kelce, Okonkwo

I made this exact trade for Team 2 a few weeks ago. The thought process for me and the other owner was that we were hopeful our guy would move on to a better situation. Looks like neither wish will come true this year lol

WR: Chase, Aiyuk, Olave, Diggs, Diontae, Hollywood, MT, Shaheed

Start: QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/3FLX/1SF
QB: Mahomes, Allen, Russ
RB: Breece, JT, Swift, Javonte, Mostert, Zamir, Irving
WR: Chase, Aiyuk, Nico, Kupp, Kirk, Hollywood, MT

Actually, the latest report is that they're negotiating his release right now.

They don't have a lot of leverage, but they're basically saying "let us off some of the future money and we'll release you"

But it sounds like it's still trending towards OBJ being waived.

I don't think they owe him anything though right?

If they cut him now, they eat all of the cap this year, but have 0 deap cap next year or 2023. I realize cap is different than cash though. I just thought his guarantees were paid up

I am very curious to see if Mayock makes a move. After AB, I have my doubts, but with this Ruggs situation, OBJ is a definite upgrade on that depth chart.

Yeah that sure looks like they don't owe him further. I guess they're saying "if you want to go somewhere else this year then help us with this contract hit, because we're on the hook for that 15 million regardless"

I heard the Saints balked at the deadline because of the money (which makes sense if you've looked at their INSANE cap sheet for this year and next)

Yeah to trade, CLE was only on the hook for 1.5M. Not sure many other teams that are competing have the extra 13.5M in cap space. Now, the Browns could've negotiated around that like Von Miller's trade, but I guess they didn't get any calls or didn't want to deal him to the teams inquiring

As a Saints I am sooo glad we didn't trade for him. OBJ hasn't done anything for the last 3 years except drop balls, get injured, whine and complain, and catch turds on his chest. Saints already have 1 injured overpaid distraction of a wr. They don't need another one.
