Do I Put the 1.02 on the Block? When?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Do I Put the 1.02 on the Block? When?

Postby Gatorguy7275 » Wed Aug 18, 2021 8:19 am

Hi everyone, I need some advice. I've posted on this forum several X before with this general issue, but this is a new twist. I have the 1.02, 1.04 & 1.10 in our rookie/FA draft next week. I'm in a rebuild & need a WR#1. I've had trade talks with AJB & DK Mgr. for either guy, but so far a non-starter for him. He also has Ridley, Godwin & Claypool. He loves Chase & Pitts, as we all do, so I had the thought of putting the 1.02 on the block & requesting offers for a WR#1, looking esp at AJB, DK, or JJ. I think it's unlikely that the 1.01 takes Pitts, as he has Waller. I'm assuming he'll take Chase. That leaves Pitts & Harris @ 1.02.

4 Qs: (1) Is the 1.02 enough to get a WR#1 like AJB, DK or JJ? (2) Should I offer the 1.02 before the draft, or wait until I'm OTC & already know what the 1.01 pick was? (3) If Chase is there @ 1.02, would you just take him rather than offering the pick? (4) Is there anything I'm
missing ?
Thanks & be safe out there!

I would make the pick available to your league now with the mention that you are looking for a solid WR and see what offers come. If there is nothing out there, easily hold and revisit once the pick is OTC or if Chase falls to the 1.02. I don't see any harm in making the pick available in case a great deal is out there. Worse comes to worse, you make the pick and go from there or hopefully Chase falls if there are no good offers that come in. I would give yourself as much time as possible for offers to roll in, so make the pick available now.

I agree with Gator Sens here. I would shop around the pick and see what comes. I like his analysis for sure but personally, I am not entirely sure if this is right but I would also consider the following: 1.) Drafting Chase if he is available. 2.) If Chase is not available drafting Harris and then shopping Barkley or Taylor for a WR+ 3.) Personally, I would not take Pitts at 1.02 but I would consider 1.04 and try to trade him to that owner or hold him since I am not a huge fan of your TEs right now.

Think the Ridley owner would bite at 1.2 for him?

I think Ridley's great for a competitor, but I prefer a younger WR who would be a big contributor for at least 5+ more yrs. Ridley's on the older side for me.

I doubt the #2 alone gets you one of those Wr's. The trade calc shows you would have to add the 1.9 or a player like Laviska. I own Adams, more productive stat wise but 4-5 years older than a DK or AJB - I wouldn't even take that deal for him. The known production is worth way more to me than a rookie pick. My league started in 1997 and still has all the original owners, so experienced guys. I just looked at the last 10 years of our rookie drafts. It's not very pretty. One team has the #1, #4, #5 this year. If he offered me all those picks for Adams, I would most likely take the deal but be scared to death.

(1) the 1.02 is not enough on it's own for any of these three guys. You'd need to add atleast another 1st two more for ajb

(2) it doesn't matter you can offer it whenever you'd like and if the value is good accept and if the value is bad reject

(3) I'd be happy to take chase at 1.02 or I'd be happy to trade if the value is good

(4) nope.

I want to see what offers I might get. One never knows, esp with all the talk about Pitts' potential trade value. Thanks to all who responded or will weigh in. I appreciate it very much.

Put it out there now, make everyone know in your league know what you want in return for the pick, set your standards high and see what offers come your way. If nothing is a quality offer then simply take BPA with each pick. You have decent wr depth, but none of them are a true wr1 currently, so even if you take Harris at 1.2 you can make a package deal to get a legit wr1 using your rb depth.
