Agreed and I'm surprised by this. Many rankings have him in the top 6 rookies. Have we not learned from OJ Howard, Eric Ebron, and David Njoku?
It is Dynasty not redraft so no doubt anyone drafting him high needs to have an abundance of patience.

I would not be afraid to pull the trigger as I pretty much stated but situation matters. One reason is he possesses the hybrid characteristics that is critical to major fantasy success.

With this player the brave might just throw out the golden rule book given his rare skill set. He plays like a WR......a real good WR.
Speaking of playing like a WR, there's a non-zero chance his new team lists him as a WR, seriously hurting his fantasy football value.
True but last year there were only 4 pass receivers that scored over 300 points and one was a TE. He is hybrid for sure but think teams designate him a TE. If he is so good they move him to WR his value will still be outstanding.

Read someplace his comp was Kelce at TE and Calvin Johnson at WR.... Can't remember the exact quote but it stuck out.

Pitts is absolutely a top 4 or 5 TE; Kittle, Kelce Waller, maybe Hockenson. Your not taking Mark Andrews or Fant over Pitts. And they certainly won't be valued over Pitts at anytime after Pitts is drafted, unless Pitts bust badly the first two years.

Pitts is the best receiving TE talent perhaps ever, at least the past 20 years. Not sure why a small sampling of other overhyped athletic TEs of the recent past is scaring so many Dynasty folks from firmly ranking Pitts mid 1st, or top 5 or 6.

Florida ran their offense through Pitts. It doesn't matter his position, he was the focal point. Were OJ Howard, Eric Ebron, and David Njoku ever that? If they weren't, why are they even remotely comparable to Pitts?

Pitts is on another level, embrace it.

when i draft someone i don't only look if he will be good year 1. too hard to predict for most prospects.

i look at whats the ceiling, how long he can play. rb seem to be good 2-3 year. yes they are good year 1 often.

te-wr-qb- there is a chance their career can last longer.

so here my valuation for pitts at high level (not talking about skills etc, i make my 1st valuation easy and quick):

good: 20 year old till october, ceiling kelce-kittle, career can last up to 31-32 years old
risk: not good until year 2- year 3

Because unlike Pitts, Howard was an elite blocking TE, who was also a good receiving TE as well. Howard was a complete player, who Alabama purposely underused as a receiver because he was so dominant as a blocker.

Pitts is really good, but I'm not buying that he's a level of TE prospect that we haven't seen before in modern times. We're two years removed from TJ Hockenson going Top 10 in a draft.

Offenses are way different these days. No one would confuse a Howard or a Gronk type with a Kelce or Pitts type.

Pitts is a Hybrid football player. He isn't a great Blocker but like a DK type or a few others he is a willing blocker much like a Kelce although he is in the pass pattern almost every play.

Just don't think it is easy to put Pitts in a box. He is going to go high in NFL and Fantasy drafts because he has unique receiving skill sets in a TE body. He will put on some weight in the pros.

Lots of opinions.

Florida did not run their offense through Pitts. They ran it through Kadarius Toney. Yes, he was heavily utilized for a college TE, but there was very little competition. We're not talking about a team full of NFL WR prospects like Alabama or LSU.

You conveniently left out Evan Engram who's team actually ran their offense through him. That team had, albeit freshman, DK Metcalf, AJ Brown and Van Jefferson.

Pitts is absolutely comparable to Engram statistically and athletically. Engram doesn't have the size, but he was an athletic freak coming out of college.

Pitts is on another level though. Unfortunately, that level is hype.

Don't get me wrong. I love Pitts as a prospect like everyone else, but ranking him TE4 pre-draft is just dumb.

Pitts deserves to go high in the actual draft. I have no doubt that Pitts is going to be a good NFL player and a high-end TE1 at some point. When that actually happens is the question and determines whether spending high on him in a rookie draft is a smart move.

I just disagree that he's a unique case of a player we haven't really seen before. This isn't the first time we've hyped a TE in rookie drafts and thought he could become elite.

I am not on board with "absolutely comparable" to Engram, he was straight speed at the position coming out of college. Pitts is 3-4" taller, with similiar speed and has a much more prolific red zone resume. The NFL covets playmakers and match up nightmares in 2021, Pitts is both and will be a top 10 NFL selection and will be the 2nd pass catcher drafted IMO. If I have to wait a year, so be it. The smart move argument is the great unknown. I have a mid 1st round grade on him. Don't really view it as hype as I don't normally draft TE's before the 2.1 range in fantasy but if he hits like a Kelce type then it's a steal.

I think his actual skill set is unique given his size and today's NFL. Scheme will obviously matter but you're correct in that we have seen hybrid TE's before.

I would contend he is a bit like a stud 3/4 LB on defense in that can play DE in 3/4 schemes. Pitts skill set looks to translate to FB, Slot, WR, & TE. In other words he can line up all over the place to create mismatches. What I don't see him doing much is lining up off the tackle like traditional TE's unless he really adds weight.

No issues with anyone taking him anywhere in the 1st round but there is a risk tolerance factor.

Engram was:

98th percentile in 40YD
82nd percentile in Vert
94th percentile in Broad Jump
80th percentile in 20YS
88th percentile in 3Cone

If Pitts replicates the above, everyone will be absolutely thrilled.

Engram had an elite athletic profile for a TE coming out of college on top of good production. He was a mismatch nightmare in college and fit the direction the NFL is going with receiving TEs. Really, Engram's only flaws outside of blocking is that he's struggled with health for a few seasons.

Hey guys,

Need some advice on Pitts. I have a pretty solid team in a 1 QB league start 10 PPR with my main guys being Murray, Cook, Gibson, Aaron Jones, Jefferson, Godwin, Lamb, Reagor, Mooney, Hardman. I also have the 1.01 via trade and only have Jonnu as my TE. I think 1.01 is too early to go TE as it's my biggest need and I love Ja'Marr Chase. Do you think I would be crazy to take Pitts at 1.01 in a non TE premium? I know he will be gone by 1.05 and I'm not sure if the other TE's will fall to my pick in the 2nd round. Appreciate your thoughts.

QB: Goff, Brady, Herbert, Tannehill
RB: CEH, JT, Akers, Dobbins, Mixon
WR: Adams, Godwin, McLaurin, Lamb, Chark, Claypool, Pittman, Diontae, Anderson
TE: Andrews, Goedert

Picks:
2021: 4 1sts, 1 2nd
2022: 1 1st, 2 2nds

Take Chase or whoever the BPA is, and trade down before or after the draft to a spot where you can get assets and take Pitts. You could probably get Pitts++ for Chase.

Engram has zero concentration skills. He is a fine athletic specimen but simply hasn't developed as a player to be counted on when needed. Dude has skillets for hands. I bet he has had more drops than any since entering the league. He gets targets by default IMO.

I'll bet Engram's metrics were probably better than Kelce's but there is a key difference. One is a HOF player that can catch and plays hard every play.

It is obvious that if you excel in the 3-cone you will suck and DK proved the reverse is true! :D

Sure, but it's not like anyone expected Travis Kelce to become one of the best TEs ever.

As always athletic metrics mean nothing if you just aren't that good at football, but despite the drops, I don't think Engram is bad at all. He could still become a high-end TE.
