Dispersal draft stragey

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Dispersal draft stragey

Postby hockeyBjj » Wed Feb 03, 2021 9:33 am

Looks like two orphan teams will be tossed together for this dispersal when I thought I was just taking over 1 orphan. Thankfully other at least in middle of the pack, and one team with good RBs the other with good WRs so should work out okish. Not gonna list the srcrubs but with these earlier picks, where would you go for strategy? As well as where is the line to take 1sts (1.06 and 1.05)? There's 4 seconds and 5 thirds as well available.

QBs- Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Daniel Jones, Big Ben, Ryan Tannehill
RBs- Barkley, Dobbins, Antonio Gibson, Hunt, Carson, James Conner
WRs- Ceedee Lamb, OBJ, Gallup, Hollywood Brown, Courtland Sutton, Aiyuk, Christian Kirk, Lazard, Van Jefferson, Jamison Crowder
TE- Mark Andrews, Darren Fells, OJ Howard

That coin flip for 1st pick to be able to take Barkley is huge. With a number of good QBs behind, I feel like smartest course would be to let Mahomes fall and then just scoop up Ljax a few rounds later. Or even just keep letting fall until Tanny. With the only good TE available, and TE horrible to try and get a decent one, probably got to bump up Andrews value to right behind Barkley/Dobbins/Lamb/Gibson right?

Age old question of wtf to do with OBJ hanging around there

Lots of good options here. Barkley would be my first choice and than see how the draft falls from there. I would love to lock up one of the top young wr's as well (Lamb or Aiyuk) but that will be draft dependent. Mahomes is also a monster piece even in a 1 QB league. I would be loess worried about TE. Andrews is solid, but not elite and outside of the elite three, all TE's are relatively the same week to week. How is the draft projected to work?

I don't think I would let Mahomes fall. He's going to be dominant for a decade+. I think there is some great RB options and would start there. I would personally rather draft 1.06 and take Pitts than bump up Andrews. He's just another TE in the huge tier of TD dependant to me. My ideal 1st three picks are Barkley, Mahomes and Lamb, but could live with Dobbins, Mahomes and best WR available
I am just a guy sharing some thoughts

I agree with Gator and murph here...best RB, then Mahomes, then best WR would be ideal. I wouldn't prioritize Andrews really, but I'm pretty high on Pitts, so if you think you could get him at 1.06 I'd go that route.

Whoops. Treat it like a 12 team leauge, ppr, start 1qb, 2rb, 3wr, 1te, 2 flex

It’s actually a 24 team leauge, 1 player copy per conference. Top 4 each conference make playoffs starting week 14. Winners each conference play each other for the total championship week 16.

There’s definitely some better looking teams at the top of this leauge, but no scary juggernaut

And I can answer that OBJ question: PASS. Even if he makes it back, there hasn’t been an indication he can stay on the field. At his age, you are better off using that pick on the players you listed, then shifting to the next tier of Sutton, Aiyuk, and maybe Hunt. They most likely will still have value in a year or two, while we have no guarantee Odell will have any.

The players you listed I'd go: Barkley, Mahomes, Lamb, Dobbins, Gibson, Sutton, 1.05, 1.06, Aiyuk, Lamar, Andrews, Hunt. Based on value.

Most everything else is useless. That's kinda a rough two team dispersal IMO. Don't worry about filling positions, just draft best talent because either way, you will have to enter a rebuild. Even if you had those teams combined, you still wouldn't be the favorite to win!

Good luck!!
Team 1: 12 team, PPR
1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1Flex

Mahomes, Lawrence
Najee, Swift, Javonte, Jamaal W, Murray
DK, DJM, Juju, Jameson, Gallup, Van
Pitts, Friermuth
1.01, 1.04, 1.11, 1.12, 3.10, 2 firsts next year

Team 2: 12 Team, SF TEP (1.5 PPR)
1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2Flex, 1 SF

Mahomes, Burrow, Cousins, Rudolph
CEH, Swift, Gibson, Jacobs, Mattison, Scott, McFarland
DK, AJB, Ridley, McLaurin, Kupp, Landry, Mims, Hamler, Miller, Johnson, Robinson
Andrews, H. Henry, Sternberger, Alie-Cox, Herndon

Same as Team 2
Watson, Burrow, Lance, Z. Wilson
Pollard, Mattison
Chase, D. Smith, Boyd, Hardman, E. Moore, Cephus, A. Rodgers, Harry, Boykin, A. Tate, Miller
Hockenson, Thomas, Albert O, Njoku
3 additional firsts

Same as Team 2
TLaw, Burrow, Watson, Darnold
CEH, Gus, Cohen
Juju, Chark, Shenault, Boyd, Landry, Renfrow, Robinson,
Engram, Kmet, Firkser, Schultz, Arnold, Herndon

Thanks. So I would draft purely based on value, and if you happen to end up being a competitive team then great. I would rank the players the following way:

(1) Barkley (Based purely on value I would take Barkley first. If however you have resigned yourself to doing a rebuild, I will not fault you for taking Lamb. ACL injuries are both short term injuries and long term ones. In the short term you lose a year and the following year you are at greater risk for compensation injuries. In the long term it shaves off a couple years. Its impossible to judge how Barkley will bounce back, if there is a market for him I would likely draft him 1.01 in the dispersal and then immediately look to trade him).

(2) Lamb (easily the #2 in this group. Young tallented WR. Fairly certain Dak is back, and with Dak, Lamb was being talked about as the WR1 in startups.

(3) Dobbins (Dobbins and Gibson are fairly similar in value. I prefer Dobbins. I am concerned that he will never get the PPR value that he could get due to Baltimore's offense, but he should be the lead back on a Run heavy team with Jackson. The biggest concern is that Jackson is efficient with his legs in the redzone. If Dobbins isn't getting the PPR value from pass catching or the TD value, then he's left with just yards. Not a great way to put up numbers)

(4) Gibson (Gibson benefitted immensely from Guice and AP being out just before the start to the season. If football team brings in a RB I'm a little concerned. If they bring in a QB I'm thrilled. Could he be the next CMC? I dont' think so, but I think he'll be easily startable.

(5) Mahomes (This is where I'm grabbing Mahomes. I think its fine to do so before the OBJ/Sutton/Aiyuk picks. Mahomes is your unquestioned QB starter for the next 10 years. No other player here is going to give you that. I may be undervaluing Mahomes here, but I have a real tough time paying so much for a QB)

(6) Sutton (Talented. I like Sutton, but I don't like Lock. I wouldn't be surprised to see a QB change, but I'm hoping for a vet like Carr more than a rookie. I don't think Rodgers is coming here)

(7) 1.06 (if you don't get mahomes, the 1.06 and 1.07 are good compensation. 1.06 may be a little early to take T Law, but I don't think anyone would fault you for taking him with either of the first rounders. I would certainly do your homework and look at the past rookie drafts with the league to see where the QBs were being drafted. Otherwise you are looking at a WR or Pitts here. I don't think I would take a RB unless one jumps up the rankings and falls in your draft. Trading these picks for additional draft assetts (future) or packaging to move up may be interesting.)

(8) 1.07 (see above)

(9) OBJ (OBJ was putting up a WR13 season before his injury. He didn't look like it, but he was. If he gets traded I think it only helps his value. I'm not as concerned with WRs with ACL injuries as I am with RBs).

(10) Aiyuk (If it wasn't for Garrapollo, Kittle, and the run first nature of the SF offense I'd have Aiyuk higher. I think they also potentially replace Jimmy G, but they will always be run first, kittle second)

(11) Andrews (Look I don't love Andrews. He was my TE3 last year, he is my TE5-6 this year. Baltimore is content to run the ball, and outside of the top 3 TEs of Kelce, Kittle, Waller, I'd rather just play matchups. Again this is a know your league guy. If TEs get traded for decent value I may move him up.)

(12) Hunt (RB1 when Chubb is out, RB1/2 when Chubb is in. I like him)

(13) Jackson (he's going to keep falling for me if he keeps running. QB's value comes from their longevity. running RBs don't have as long. Eventually he will slow down or get injured. Another know your league guy. If you can get good value for him by trading, I'd rank him higher. But I have him as a late 1st value (ie a contender's first).

(14) Kirk (Loved him coming out of college. I think I like his offense. Not sure I like his use. But he had flashes. He could go up this year).

(15) 2nds (time to draft seconds. I think Carson may be worth a mid second, depending on where he is so early 2nds here, then carson then late seconds)

(16) Carson (when healthy he's good)

(17) Gallup (you may have to wait for him to move on from Dallas, or for Cooper, but I think he is talented and could be a WR1/2)

(18) Brown (Less than impressed with him. don't like Baltimore offense for WRs)

(19) Lazard(concerned about GB bringing in another WR, plus he wasn't all that great)

(20) Conner(I don't have faith in him being a productive RB1)

(21) Tannehill(Great value here. I wouldn't draft him if I have Mahomes, I would however draft him if I had Jackson)

(22) 3rds (the rest of the guys I don't really care about. Depending on team build and time of the draft I may even take the 3rds above conner)

(23) Van Jefferson(I think LAR have a lot of route runners and not any field stretchers. I don't think that bodes well for Jefferson.

(24) Jones (Blah, 3 QBs I like easily a lot more, no need to waste a pick here)

(25) Ben(Don't care about these two QBs, not with the three above)

(26) Crowder(I'm intrigued by Crowder, but really not sure how one more year really changes much)

(27) Howard(I'm willing to draft Howard, but I want another TE also)

(28) Fells(Staying away from houston)

overall:
I dont' know if there is a championship team to be had here. I'm not even sure there is a competitive team (maybe something like Barkley, OBJ, Sutton, Hunt, Jackson but your depth isn't going to cut it). Before you draft I would scour all trades that have happened in the past 2-3 years and all rookie drafts. See if there are some postions/player types that are overvalued or under valued. If I could come out with Lamb (2), Mahomes (5), Sutton (6), 1.06 (7), 1.07 (8) I think I'd be thrilled. I'd then look to build around Mahomes and some WRs for a rebuild. If you manage to do this, I'd also take shots on Gallup, Kirk, and the 2nds. Hope Gallup and Kirk improve value in the 2021 season and sell the 2021 2nds for more assets in the 2022 draft.

Best of luck. I hope you come back to this tread and post the results of your dispersal draft.

Rank the players and picks before the draft and take BPA (within reason) at every pick. Don't reach for guys to fill out your starting lineup, you don't need to worry about that for 7 more months. Accumulate as much value as possible, and you can always tinker with it later.
