How to make this team a contender for 2021 (bit long)

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Which approach?

How to make this team a contender for 2021 (bit long)

Postby StripesOfKC » Thu Dec 24, 2020 2:54 am

Team 1 in Sig

8 Team

2 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 3 FLEX, 1 D, 1 K

QB: Burrow (IR), Tannehill, Stafford, Jordan Love
RB: Jonathan Taylor, JK Dobbins, CEH, D'Andre Swift, Damien Harris, Cohen (IR), Darrynton Evans
WR: AJ Brown, McLaurin, Justin Jefferson, DJ Moore, Courtland Sutton (IR), Jerry Jeudy, DJ Chark, Diontae Johnson, Gallup, Mims, Pittman, Anthony Miller, Bryan Edwards, Parris Campbell (IR), Mooney, Gabe Davis, Collin Johnson
TE: Kittle (IR), Hockenson, Gesicki

2021: 1.5, 2.3, 3.7
2022: 3 1sts, 2 2nds, 1 3rd, 2 4ths
2023: 1 1st, 1 2nd, 1 3rd, 1 4th

Won the chip in 2019 but (thankfully) realized that team wasn't in a position to repeat and decided to flip MT and Zeke (and Deshaun Watson I guess) at what I thought (correctly except Watson) were their peak values and netted (the players or picks I used to select) DJM, Justin Jefferson, DJ Chark, D'Andre Swift, JK Dobbins, Joe Burrow and three first round picks

Along with some other pickups and flips for picks--flipped Gaskin, Mike Davis and Fulgham for a 2nd each and some others for 3rds and 4ths and some buys using picks--got Stafford for a 3rd this year, Tannehill for a late 2nd and Jerry Jeudy for an early 2022 2nd and 3rd--I think I have a potentially bright future

As expected I went 5-9 this year and missed the playoffs but was 4th (ahead of a team in the final) in points for and 2nd in points over the last 5 weeks of the season going 4-1 thanks to some younger players getting into rhythm

Some possible trading opporunities:

1.8/1.7 (depending on championship) is on the block and the owner has some interest in moving down 3-4 picks to my 2.3 (pick 11 overall)

Other players in trade discussions elsewhere in the league: Derrick Henry (though owner would want Swift in any deal from me), Joe Mixon, Alvin Kamara, Russell Wilson, Amari Cooper, DK Metcalf, Lamar Jackson, Chris Godwin

Right now I am thinking I just hold 1.5 and pick an RB if possible (like if one emerges next to ETN/Najee--who will be gone by 1.5) and a QB at 2.3 (likely the last of the Wilson/Lance/Fields tier) but a move for a QB or RB is also appealing and not sure WR is 100% set

Thoughts?

I want to make the playoffs next year (and anything can happen from that point). This league is one with close friends and it felt empty watching this week with them without being in it after winning last year

I would hold your picks and keep building. You have a young team and your biggest need to get you over the jump is a big time QB or two. Time is also needed here to let your RBs grow and see who pans out.

As for my TE situation should I be holding both Kittle and Hockenson this offseason or trying to sell one for value elsewhere?

You could use a stud QB if it is possible. Otherwise you just need your young RB prospects to hit. Your team has a long competition window and should be set up nicely.

QBs possibly on the block: Russ, Lamar, Baker, Matt Ryan, Tom Brady

Also a chance to select Lawrence at 5 or to trade up to 7/8 from 11 to secure my choice of Fields, Wilson or Lance

At 11 (where I am right now) one of those guys and possibly two are gone.

Any path you’d prefer?

Lawrence if hes there, but I'd also think russ would be a solid QB1 to pair with tannehill and burrow.

Burrow, tannehill, and stafford aren't bad if you cant land either at a reasonable price though.

I'd hang onto both I think. Kittle gets banged up again and you lose your advantage at TE.

You have a lot of talented upside guys riding pine. In an 8 man league if you can get a couple 2 for 1 type deals, I’d be all over it. Pending price of course.

I don't know if he still counts as a stud but I wanted to address my WR position (not a huge hole) quickly so I can move on to RB and QB for the rest of the offseason and thought his price was as low as it will ever get so I kicked the tires on Julio

Ended up pulling off this deal

Give: Gabriel Davis+my own 2022 2nd (hopefully late-ish--still have another 2022 2nd)+late 2021 3rd (pick 24)

Get: Julio Jones

I love Davis but I thought the price was too low to pass on--especially with the sharks (other league members) encircling and possibly undercutting my deal

Thoughts? I think he still has another year or two left of at least low WR1/high WR2 production

Might have been too desperate to help my 2021 case though

I'd be curious what the trade market for QBs in this league has been like. On one band, only 8 teams. On the other, must start 2. What the QB trade history?

From a value perspective, I like the Julio trade, though don't think WR is a need.
League #1- 14 tm ppr, 1Q, 2R, 3W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1K
1 DT, 2 DE, 2 LB, 1 CB, 1 S, 1 flex

League #2- 12 team PPR, 1Q, 1R, 2W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1 W/R/T, 1 Def

League #3- 12 tm PPR, 1Q, 0R (yes, ZERO RB) 3W, 1T, 2 R/W/T flex, 1 Def

Some trades involving QBs so far:

A Team gave Justin Herbert and a late 1st at the beginning of the year for Kyler Murray (and now regrets it)

I gave a late 2nd this year for Ryan Tannehill

I gave an early to mid 3rd this year and Daniel Jones for Matthew Stafford

If I don't select Trevor Lawrence at 1.5, I suspect he will go at 1.6, while Fields, Wilson and Lance will go anywhere from 1.8-2.5 (so early to mid 2nd mostly)

Trask and Jones depend on landing spot but probably late 2nd to (more likely) early 3rd or so

If I go position player at 5:

The team picking at 6 wants a 2022 first (I have 3 of them) to move from 11 (my 2nd round pick currently) up to 6 to select Trevor Lawrence

The team picking at 7/8 (pending tonight's outcome) only wants a future 2nd and Jordan Love to move from 11 up to 7/8 to select my choice of Fields, Zach Wilson or Lance (Lawrence probably goes 6 if I don't move up with that owner)

Thoughts? (on that or the rest of my team, Julio trade, etc)
