Most snake bit team ever?

Postby joeday » Thu Dec 17, 2020 7:45 pm

2019 --
Preseason -- During the draft I passed on Kyler Murray in the 1st round of the rookie draft because my QBs were Drew Brees and Andrew Luck. I really liked Kyler (and would trade for him late in the season) but with my QB situation under control I traded back and took TJH while the person I traded with took Kyler. Luck would then retire a couple of weeks before the season and Brees would get injured. Oh, and Antonio Brown went crazy.
Week 1 -- lost by 1.05 -- no injuries
Week 2 -- lost by 1.25 -- Drew Brees injured his hand in the 1st quarter
Week 3 -- lost by 6.50 -- With no Brees I was starting Mason Rudolph, Saquon Barkley injured in the 1st half
Week 9 -- lost by 5.20 -- Stefon Diggs and Allen Robinson combine for 4.20 points
Started the season 1-4, was 4-6 after week 10. My luck does turn around and I win out to win the championship. I was the top scoring team on the year but had I not won out weeks 11-13 I would have been the highest scoring team and not even make the playoffs.

My championship lineup was:
QB - Drew Brees
RB - Saquon Barkley, Ezekiel Elliott, James Conner
WR - Allen Robinson, Stefon Diggs, Julio Jones
TE - George Kittle
K - Justin Tucker
D/ST - Denver Broncos

So going into 2020 I thought to myself, there is no way my luck could be that bad two years in a row. I turned it around and won the championship in 2019 so this year I can just roll through the regular season and defend my hard earned title.

2020 --
Week 1 -- lost by 5.60 -- my opponent, for reasons passing understanding, benched Michael Thomas (9.90) for Marquise Brown (17.10). Also, Kittle was injured in this game.
Week 2 -- lost by 2.20 -- Saquon Barkley is injured in the 1st quarter
Week 3 -- lost by 19.15 -- I know this wasn't close but Alvin Kamara scored 46.70 points. The reason I point this out is during our rookie draft in May the Kamara owner offered me Kamara for Joe Mixon and JK Dobbins. Kamara and Mixon were very closely ranked and Dobbins was my favorite rookie RB. Not making this deal cost me at least this game*
Week 7 -- lost by 2.65 -- A bunch of weird stuff happened this week. Allen Robinson hurt on the final drive where the Bears were getting garbage yards. Mixon was injured the week before and I tried to trade for Gio Bernard but the owner said he needed to start Gio so he didn't trade him to me and had I gotten Gio I would have won (he traded him to me the following week). He also didn't start Gio, Oh and this was another game where Kamara was against me and I would have won if I made that trade.
Week 10 -- lost by 3.05 -- Remember I said the guy traded me Gio the next week? Well I played him this week (3 games later). I played Gio instead of Rex Burkhead (who I would have played if he didn't make the deal). Oh Jonnu Smith was the player he got in the deal who had 9.50 points (8 points more than his next best TE).
Week 12 -- lost by 72.80 -- Yeah, I lost this one handily but it is not my game that continued my bad luck. In a game where I needed another team to lose to then have a win and in situation week 13 their opponent played the injured Randall Cobb instead of Amari Cooper. The team I needed to lose won by 9.65...Cobb scored 0.00 and Cooper scored 25.20. When I texted him after I noticed it he claims he submitted his lineup on his phone but he was somewhere with really bad reception.

I ended up winning week 13 but since an idiot played Cobb over Cooper the week before it didn't matter because I needed to win and get some help, which I did not get.

My team had the high score for the season by about 100 points but I missed the playoffs by one game.

*Had I made that preseason deal of Mixon and Dobbins for Kamara I would have won 5 more games, giving me a record of 12-1

I lost Kittle, Barkley, and Mixon for most, if not all, of the year.

Ok, if you have a more snake bit team I would love to see it! Have at it! haha

Agree. Not sure you can be snake bitten coming off a championship. I think most teams have been in situations where the β€œwoulda, coulda, shoulda” scenario plays out against us.

That being said... definitely some tough losses. If I didn’t make the playoffs because some idiot didn’t set a lineup I would go berserk.

Haha I get that, but that was kinda my point...after all the bad luck in 2019 I really thought 2020 was gonna be smooth sailing. Ive never had a team with that many close loses or weird things happening two years in a row.

Things happen and I will keep this short because you don't need a blow by blow.

2018 Fantasy champions my team in sig. 10-3
Goff
Zeke Kamara
Juju Cooper Ridley
Kittle

Safe to say I feel good about 2019. Same lineup I finish 3-10, dead last the infamous first to worst. I have overall picks 1, 2 and 7 of the first 3 rounds. I draft piles of vaunted rookies(see sig.)

2020 Division Champ(9-4), 2 games to go for the championship. All my vaunted rookies? CEH,JT, Ruggs, Mims etc? Total non factors. My lineup is the same as 2018 except for Josh Allen, a guy I got for free late 2018 off waivers.

Its not a snakebit story its just a showcase of the randomness that is fantasy.
Cavaliers 12 team standard, 1QB, 1RB, 1WR, 2WR/TE, 1flex

I missed the playoffs this year in a league that I went all in on. I missed approximately 30 games combined between Kenny G, Mixon, Chubb, Ertz, and Julio. Sucks.

Oh yeah, that was just one part of it though. Taking that completely out, still a weird bunch of things happening. I mean who benches Michael Thomas for Hollywood Brown week 1? How many close games can a team have that were losses because of in game injuries. It was almost comical week to week with my friends in that league wondering what weird thing was gonna happen next to cost me a game lol

Might not be on par with the OP, but this year has been rough, not even factoring in COVID.

Lost Saquon for the year in week 2.
Acquired Mack in a trade and lost him for the year the following day.
Week 6 Mixon goes down. Down 3 starting RBs, after having traded away MGIII and Conner.
Mims does absolutely nothing for a whole year.
Ertz is out 5 games.

Made it to the semi's and am seeded 3rd (no way I could have won against the 1 seed).

I made the playoffs in this league so things could have been worse - but, I had 3 weeks where my starting QB was knocked out of the game. Dak, Dalton, and then Carr. QB scoring is heavily weighted in this league and when Carr pulled his groin the first quarter my season was over before the weekend.
