Pay up for a QB or ride it out?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Pay up for a QB or ride it out?

Postby sammyz » Wed Nov 11, 2020 9:18 am

I'm thinking about offering Juju for Justin Herbert straight up. 1 qb league (in the sig) but guys value qbs like 3 down RBs. I turned down an offer of Kyler for JK Dobbins (I've still got Dak coming back next year after all) but I really would love to try to finish out the year with someone better than Teddy and Drew Lock at QB. I'm in 4th and might need to use Dobbins down the stretch with CMC hurt, but I've got WRs a plenty.

Should I move Juju for Herbert if I can? Our deadline is approaching fast. He owns Mahomes/Kyler/Herbert/Tannehill and could use a WR to rebuild. I've already offered as much as Diontae Johnson + AJ Dillon (which I felt was a big overpay already) and gotten no movement. I offered Diontae straight up for Aaron Rodgers and have heard nothing. I think he MIGHT take Juju straight up for Herbert. Should I?
QBs: Dak Prescott, Teddy Bridgewater, Taysom Hill, Jameis Winston, Jalen Hurts, Andy Dalton

WRS: Godwin, DJ Moore, Juju, Keenan Allen, Diggs, McLaurin, Dionte Johnson, Jalen Reagor, Bryan Edwards, Brandon Aiyuk, Tim Patrick
TEs: Mark Andrews, TJ Hockenson, Irv Smith

I would hold JuJu in a 1 QB league. Sounds like the prices for a QB are crazy high in this league. I'm not sure its worth the price to upgrade.

Zero interest in giving away juju for herbert in a 1QB. you have 2 startable QBs in Bridgewater and Lock.

I’m riding that wave. Unless you think you can flip them next year if the whole league values QBs this way. But in typical 1 QB I’m holding.

12 Team Dynasty, 0.5 PPR, TE Premium

this is insane to consider! - it isn't even that much of an upgrade over Teddy and Lock and you have Dak back next season.

The only reason I'm considering it at all is that I'm limping into 4th place right now and not sure that I can win a championship with Teddy or Drew and I'm going for my 3rd in a row. I also don't feel great about next season as is without a 1st or a 2nd so part of me wants to secure a stable long term backup qb. I've felt a little QB poor since Luck retired on me.

You have Dak, this year is going to be unique and continue to be unique ( a nice was of saying a Fu*&ed up year ). Don't overpay for a qb in a 1 qb league. Have you floated out Andrews to anyone and then ride TJ Hock?

I haven't...the problem overall in this league is QB prices. The top 10 qbs are all owned by only like 4 players. The Mahomes/Kyler/Herbert/Tannehill owner has literally said that he wouldn't trade Mahomes straight up for CMC, if that tells you how he feels about QB values.

That being said, I'm not opposed to selling Andrews, but for what, Rodgers? The Kyler owner thought Dobbins was good "even value" for Kyler and I'm not trading Andrews for Tannehill. Andrews would be way too much for Herbert no?

So how are those 4 owners doing? Honestly, I'd be fine moving Andrews for Herbert, assuming you have something else at TE. He's fallen into the "easily replaceable" zone for TEs for me.

The difference between Herbert and Bridgewater right now is 7ppg. That is massive.

Miles Gaskin is a "startable" RB. But the difference between him and Aaron Jones is 7ppg, the same as the difference between Herbert and Bridgewater.

No one would have a problem with someone offering up JuJu to upgrade from Gaskin to Jones to make a championship run. But that deal would be rejected by the Jones owner. Meanwhile he can get the same upgrade here and probably get something added back on top.

One is in last, owns Rodgers and didn't accept Diontae straight up. The guy in 5th is holding Watson, Allen (and Carr). The guy in 1st has Brady. All the others are owned by the guy in 6th. His basic philosophy seems to be that since QBs play so long their value is that much higher than everyone else. I'm not willing to sell my future for pennies on the dollar but I'm struggling here. I think the upgrade to Herbert is relevant but he wants the equivalent of a 1st ++
