2021 QB Carousel

Postby FantasyFreak » Wed Oct 28, 2020 3:22 am

So just looking ahead to the potential QB shake ups in 2021.

Looking at Jimmy G's contract, they can get out without almost any dead cap. Does he end up back with BB in NE?

Lock looks like he won't last. Who will be the guy in Denver, if it isn't him?

If Dallas ends up with a top 5 pick, do they go with a guy like Lance, rather than pay Dak a ton?

Who will be in Indy? What about New Orleans?

Will retreads like Winston get another shot? Seems there are 3 prospects who could be seen as long term starters in the draft (and Lance probably wouldn't start right away).

Seems if Fitz can handle another year, he may get another shot, somewhere else, for a year. Lot's of possibilities.

No crystal ball around these ways, but I love the future prognostication game - and I've been thinking about the SF situation. There's no chance that Shanahan goes into next year without another QB option - my guess is that he is going to try and find someone in the draft (but it could also be FA given how loaded this class is). But I personally expect Jimmy G to return - you don't want to just give up your institutional stability for no reason, and the healthy version of this 49ers team with Jimmy G made a Superbowl. Let them compete, and groom the heir behind Jimmy for one more season - Smith to Mahomes style, or earlier if the opportunity presents. Ultimately, that will be Shanahan's dream - finding a trigger man that can properly execute this offense. The thought of this 49ers team - except they're hitting on the deep ball (or, frankly, anything past the l.o.s) is scary.

One other team you left out... but at some point, I expect the Maras have got to get real with themselves about where they're at in New York. This is a franchise (/ownership group) that used to consider itself on the same level as the Steelers; as sister franchises. That's their level of pride and expectation, and I can only hope they are as livid as I am about what Dave freakin' Gettleman has done with this Giants roster.

My one hope is that they don't let Gettleman make the pick, if they do indeed decide to pull pin on Jones. He doesn't deserve to get his GM timeline reset by another rookie QB.

I agree that SF will add a QB this offseason. Unfortunately they're likely stuck in QB purgatory. The team is good enough to have a draft pick in the teens and miss out on the top rookie QBs, bad enough to not make a splash in the playoffs. They'll sign someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick to a short contract.

What they SHOULD do is be aggressive like KC: Trade up to get that young QB. I'm not saying they'll get the next Pat Mahomes, but you've got to take that shot. I think my Vikings should do the same.
Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.

Both NY teams might have new QBs next year.
What messes.

Broncos look screwed no no matter how it plays out.

Definitely curious who actually retires.

I'll predict yet again that Brady, Brees, Rivers and Ben are going to retire.... And yet again I'll probably be wrong on all of them

I can see Brees, but I think the other three are all back. Rivers is the only true question mark.

Brady has already earned the 2nd year of his contract with his play the last 2 weeks. He's still got it.

Atlanta is worth watching too. Depending on if they're in the range to draft a QB, Matt Ryan would be someone who a contender without a QB would like.

Matt Ryan to SF? Reunite with Shanahan (Pretty sure he was the OC for their Super Bowl a few years ago).

If they move on from Jimmy G I could see this. They'd get their D line back healthy and be true contenders on paper imo

Call me crazy but I'm not throwing in the towel on Lock. Nobody would accuse Pat Shurmur of being a good or creative play caller.

Let's get him Sutton back, Fant healthy and a better coach in his corner.

Lock looks rough but with his weapons ideally back healthy I think they give him next year to prove himself unless they’re in love with a prospect. I think Brady and Ben still play Brees looks like it’s his last year.
