Is Adam Thielen worth a mid-late 1st?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Is Adam Thielen worth a mid-late 1st?

Postby joeday » Wed Oct 28, 2020 8:48 am

I think I have a playoff team...not sure if it’s a championship team. Someone is offering up Thielen in a deal. They want my first. It could be anywhere from 6 to 12. Is Thielen worth it? It’s 12 team, PPR.

Thielen is producing well, so if you think he can push you closer to being a real contender then it's absolutely worth it. Value is one thing, but the whole point of this is to win.

And the value is reasonable here regardless.

I sure think he's worth it for a very strong contender. Not many plun-n-play target hog WRs with a nose for the end zone are available this time of year at that price.

He is 100% worth it for a contender. For a middle of the pack/back end playoff team, it's not as clear. This is always tough, as I'm a firm believer that any team in the playoffs can win it and it's a total crap shoot come playoff time. Even if you don't win the title this year, does he help your build the next couple years? I think Thielen has productive years left in him.

I went after him for this exact reason. Try for this year, 2-3 years of solid production even if Jefferson starts to take over fully. 15-25 is reasonable even if he slows some. I’d take the peace of mind here.

For a contender, sure. The owner in my league wanted 2 1sts this offseason. Hell to the no on that price, but a single first for Thielen is reasonable - though at the time, I still wasn't too interested in sending a single 1st as a counter, nevermind it probably not even being worth sending given the initial price.

By comparison, I traded a 1st and 2nd to get Keenan Allen a few weeks ago instead of asking about Thielen again, and I'd still rather pay a 1st and 2nd for Allen vs. a 1st for Thielen.

I have a strong contender in your exact situation and need another WR. Ultimately I decided not to offer my 1st based on his TD luck, WR strength of next year's class, and my team is pretty young so I'd rather offer more and get someone with more long-term value. Non-0 chance he gets dealt to a worse situation this week as well.
