Watson vs. Dak

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Watson vs. Dak

Postby Sinatra's Liver » Fri Sep 25, 2020 5:18 pm

I have Lamar with Watson as QB2. I was approached by the owner of Mahomes and Prescott because we both have bye week issues with both our QBs. (Yes, both of mine are on bye week 8, both of his on week 10.) What's the difference between the two?

I suggested his first (late) for my second (late). What do you think?

Watson and late 2 for Dak and late 1? I find that fair, but I’m maybe higher on Watson and lower on Dak than most. I do own one or the other if every league this year though haha.

Edit: I’m generally not a fan of trading stuff around just for byes, even in redraft, let alone dynasty. Take your one weak week and be full power the rest of the year imo.

Can't see a Dak owner giving him and 1st away for a QB not any better in fantasy and so far this year way worse. Dak has a ton of weapons. His WR 3 is better than any WR on the Texans.

One can dream though I guess.

For everyone saying Dak over Watson, do you assume Dak signs long term in Dallas?

I'll go the other way, and say that I picked up Andy Dalton during roster-cuts week for exactly this reason. This is a highly unlikely gamble, low chance that it's the Red Rifle for Dallas next year... but reportedly both Dallas FO and beatwriters have been very impressed by him thus far. It was also a craven "leverage" move signing that I could see Jerry being stubborn enough to actually go through on.

Anyway, the Boys have completely screwed the pooch on the Dak situation. Tagging him again will be a 38 million dollar proposition next year, a number the Boys currently can't hit without letting some other contracts walk.

Project that into a year where the cap will either stay the same, or go down and it starts getting dicey. Of course, all of this can be traced back to the Zeke contract... that's the mega-contract that will likely age the worst going forward. I understood why they did it, but the bill must come due somewhere.

My dark horse bet is that Dak is an Indy Colt next season. They have the cap to hand him the mega-bag he desires.

Depends how they do this year. Beating a hapless Falcons team like that won't get it done. They should be 0-2 right now. He needs to perform in the playoffs, IMO.

I see no point in trading away a top 5 QB for a bye week, let alone adding to him. Worst case you take 1 L.
I am just a guy sharing some thoughts

It may be a problem a few years down the line but Zeke is much more important to this team than Cooper, and they're paying Cooper even more than Zeke.

I think if they could go back and have a do over on one of these deals it would without a doubt be Cooper, especially after Lamb fell into their laps.
