Studies: Hydroxychloroquine Useless Against COVID

FRIDAY, May 15, 2020 (HealthDay News) -- Two new studies are the latest in a series to show that a drug touted by U.S. President Donald Trump as a potential game changer against COVID-19 doesn't work.

Hydroxychloroquine reduces inflammation, pain and swelling, and is widely used to treat rheumatic diseases and malaria.

Laboratory tests of the drug against COVID-19 yielded promising results, but mounting evidence from clinical and observational studies suggest that it doesn't provide any meaningful benefits for COVID-19 patients.

NFL and NFLPA agree to Thursday 4pm Eastern deadline for opting out. A few interesting points:
1) High risk UDFAs can opt out and receive 350k
2) Following the deadline, players can opt out for family or medical reasons related to COVID19
3) Players can request player housing up to week1
4) Players who refuse COVID19 testing can be fined
5) Players who do not adhere to wearing masks and social distancing can be fined and/or suspended

A fine for refused testing? Shouldn't they be suspended until they take the test?

Do they accrue a year, still? This will be very problematic. Guys can play a week or two, then opt out and wait for FA.

Didn't see anything about it but I would think so. They opt out after Thursday is dependent on conditions and I think that the high risk opt out allowed an acrewed year.

So Dalvin or Kamara etc. Could just opt out and get a year towards FA, then. Hmmmmmm.

It doesn't sound quite that easy to me. The wording makes it sound like they can just opt out and get a year towards FA....IF they or a family member gets Covid and has health related issues because of it. It sounds like they have to have a very specific valid reason after the deadline.

No. To opt out after Thursday the player must either have a new condition that would allow them to medically opt out, or have a family member contract covid19 and either die, be hospitalized, or be in some other treatment center.

Not just football, but ALL fall sports. I'm a big volleyball fan so this is a major disappointment, but also not surprised.

They're hoping for a spring season, but I doubt that happens.

IF we make any progress by then. We're stuck in a bad Paula Abdul song. One step forward, two steps back. :wall:

I can see it being ok for most sports to transition seasons (I guess) but how many football players that are eligible for the draft are going to be like, "oh sure I'd love to play knowing I could be hurt and not have any recovery time between now and the NFL season". But alternatively they ball out and keep the high right onto an NFL roster.

I foresee some crazy combine numbers next year. The top 20-30 players have 0 reason to play in the spring, but will likely be hiring strength coaches and starting workouts sooner than later to perfect their combine drills.
12 Team | SF | PPR | 6pt pass TD
QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, FL, SF

QB | Burrow
RB |
WR | Puka, Olave, Smith, Flowers, Dotson, Addison
TE | Pitts, Otton, Bellinger, Likely, Okonkwo
2024 | 1.01, 1.02, 4.01, 5.01
2025
| 1stx3, 3rdx3

10 Team | SF | PPR | 2023 Champ
QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, FL, SF

QB | Allen, Stroud, Young
RB | K Williams, White, Monty, Herbert, Chandler
WR | Lamb, AJB, Puka, Waddle, Mooney, J. Williams, Watson, Davis
TE | Andrews, Bellinger, Dulcich
2024 | 1.04, 3.10

12 Team | SF | PPR | 1.5TEP | 6pt pass TD
QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, FL, FL, SF

QB | Herbert Lance
RB | ETN, Pacheco, K Williams, Singletary, Henry, A Jones, Warren
WR | ARSB, Wilson, Olave, DK, Puka, Flowers, Downs,

Yeah, I'm not sure how much faster you can get once you hit a certain point. I think it may help that less players will be hurt or coming off a college season and experience burn out, but in terms of speed and agility, I don't expect numbers to be too much different than what those players would have done anyway. They train all year around anyways, and have plenty of time to train for the combine. I mean, I suppose a year of doing the 3 cone will help you a bit, but I think they will be focusing on maintaining and developing their football skills just as much. They are still students, too. I'd personally take the trade off of another season of tape over a good combine as a GM. It's going to be very tough for the scouting community next year.
