Drafting a rookie RB 12th slot

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Drafting a rookie RB 12th slot

Postby The Pyrate » Mon Jul 27, 2020 2:24 pm

As it stands, I have the 12th overall pick. Standard league.

I believe that my team will make the playoffs and be a contender to go all the way. It's going to be tough without a true RB2.

Yet, I'm projecting which RBs will be there in 12, and it does not look good.
Darrynton Evans, TEN
AJ Dillon, GB
DeeJay Dallas

Of these, I'm leaning handcuff with Darrynton Evans. Who should I draft? I'm open to all suggestions. Starter/scoring requirements in signature. Thanks!
THE PYRATES. Terrorizing this league since 2006 - Playoffs (06,07,10,11,13-16,18, 19)
4 Division titles, 5 Superbowls (2006, 2013-2016), 2013 CCFL Champions

QB: D.Watson, T.Bridgewater, C.Newton, AJ.McCarron, J.Hurts-R
RB: D.Henry, K.Drake, A.Dillon-R, D.Evans-R, R.Armstead, D.Lewis, F.Gore, B.Hill, D.Williams, D.Dallas-R,
WR: M.Evans, J.Smith-Schuster, C.Ridley, C.Kirk
TE: T.Kelce, C.Herndon
K: M.Gay, M.Prater
DEF Texans, Seahawks

14-team, 2 division, non-ppr with salary caps. Starts 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, K, DST
Pillage FIRST! THEN burn. Doing it the other way around is pointless.

Evans makes sense from a security standpoint, but I think Dillon has the potential for the most upside in year one.

None of these guys are providing RB2 value this year

Get AJ Dillon, the cap is gonna be 20million less next year and with their roster I don't see how the Packers go deep in the playoffs this year or justify paying Jones the payday he will want on a team transitioning to rebuild mode this offseason. LaFleur is a system believer so he thinks any RB will be a star and he may be right. Handcuffs are nice but I think you get a RB1 level product at position 12 here.
Cavaliers 12 team standard, 1QB, 1RB, 1WR, 2WR/TE, 1flex
QB: J. Allen, S. Howell, Z.Wilson
RB: A. Kamara, J. Taylor, CEH, K. Gainwell, P. Strong
WR: A.J. Brown, A. Cooper, J. Dotson, C. Ridley, E. Moore, W. Robinson, J. Meyers, T. Marshall,
TE: G. Kittle, J. Johnson, J. Woods, H. Henry
'23 1.10, 2.10, 3.10 '24 1, 2, 3
Recent Championships '19,'21,'22

Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends- 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2Flex

RB: Pierce, Miller, K. Herbert, E. Hull
WR: Chase, Watson, Davis, JSN, Metchie, Pierce, V. Jefferson, Claypool, Thornton, Westbrook-Ikhine
TE: Pitts, Woods, Latu

I'd trade back 4 or 5 picks see if I could get a 2nd next year on top if it is only a RB your targeting and see if Moss Dillon Or Evans falls.

RB values to me would be
Moss
Dillon
Evans
Kelley

I don't think Dallas is in this tier of backs tbh.

There's no way I'm considering any of those guys at 12 overall. Certainly not if you want to contend, which I do not see your team as a contender. I'd take BPA here, or trade the pick.

This.

But if you're bound and determined:

Dillon
Gibson
Moss
Evans

DJ Dallas is a HUGE over draft at 1.12. He has been going in the mid-late 4th in most of my drafts.

Hell I would probably draft Lynn Bowden before DJD and hope for some sort of lightning in a bottle gimmick role for him.

I agree with all of the above. BPA or trade the pick. Find the worst team in the league, that should be doing a full rebuild, and see if they have an mid-age player for that 1.12. You never know.

I think I gave up Chris Carson for a late 1st last year during a full on fire sale.

I'd take Dillon. He may return flex value this year which should be good enough in a pinch.
Dillon is the only one of those backs that even has a chance to be worth a 1st this time next year..... and he may be worth a lot more depending on the hype.

Dillon is who you should be grabbing here if there isn’t a better option at the wide receiver position at this slot
Qb: Hurts, geno Smith
Rb: JT, Gibbs, Montgomery, Roschon, Z. White, Ty Chandler
Wr: AJB, JJ, Chase, waddle, G Wilson
TE: Pitts, Kincaid, Likely, Njoku

2024 1.01, 1.04, 1.05
10 team
9 players kept yearly
Non PPR
Not super flex
Start 1/1/2/1/2 flex
1 point per first down
All tds 6 points

In a standard scoring league, you could probably make a case for Dillon. I’m assuming Vaughn will be off the board by then. I wouldn’t expect RB2 production this year from any of the guys you listed though. I’d either try to trade down as others have suggested or trade the pick for a more established RB. Maybe Bell?
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

🦬PRIME🦬
QB: Hurts, Howell
RB: Mixon, Jones, Sanders, Dobbins, Akers, Roschon, Dowdle, Kelley
WR: Nuk, Godwin, Cooper, Lockett, Flowers, Chark, Collins, Hollins, Tillman, Tolbert
TE: Hockenson, Chig, Trautman
Taxi: Willis, Z. White, M. Mims, T. Palmer

Hull Awaits
$450 cap, 60 contract years

QB: Lawrence $5/3, Richardson $5/5, Minshew $1/0, Jones $1/0, Heinicke $1/0, Tyrod $1/0
RB: Achane $4/4, Warren $2/4, Roschon $7/5, Dillon $4/1, Hubbard $2/1, Kelley $1/0
WR: Nuk $78/1, MT $25/1, M. Williams $1/0, JSN $21/5, Reed $4/5, Rice $4/5, M. Wilson $2/5
TE: Thomas $1/0, Hill $1/0, Parham $1/0

That's a tough position, but I would rather draft the best wr or trade out instead of reaching for one of those running backs.

If you really want an RB here then trade down. There's no value at this pick.
TEAM 1
Dynasty PPR 1QB (12 Team League)

QB - Murray, Fields, Pickett, Howell.
RB - Gibbs, R. White, Swift, Javonte Williams, Charbonnet, Allegier, Tank Bigsby, Penny.
WR - Nacua, Dell, Hollywood, Jameson Williams, Burks, Mooney, Atwell, Melton, Phillips, Washington, Lazard.
TE - Ferguson, Mayer, Knox.
DEF - Bills, Vikings.

Rookie Picks: 1.02, 2.02, 3.02, 4.02 and 5.02.

TEAM 2
Dynasty PPR - SuperFlex and TE Prem. (16 teams)

QB - Prescott, Pickett, Ridder, Mariota, Mullins, Willis.
RB - Walker III, R. White, Montgomery, Singletary, R. Jones, Mack, Hull, Sermon.
WR - Adams, Higgins, Watson, Meyers, Gabe Davis, W. Robinson, Dotson, Raymond, ARob.
TE - McBride, H. Henry, B. Jordan, Bates, B. Hopkins.

Rookie Picks: 2.14 and 3.14.

As many others have said, the only option is to trade down. The end of the first is full of strong WR talent. If you don't want any of them, there will surely be someone in the top half of the second round who would trade up. You would still get whatever RB you want and pick up something extra in the process.
