Thoughts on Ertz as a Goedart owner

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Thoughts on Ertz as a Goedart owner

Postby Pearl3790 » Fri Jul 10, 2020 12:19 pm

I own Goedart and Ertz. I feel as though Goedart will surpass Ertz and want to sell Zack while his value is still high.

I am considering trading....

Ertz and Edelman for AJ Green, Austin Hooper, and 2022 first.

Would this be a good move with the team in my signature.

Thanks for all input and advice!

No. Your team looks like it could be competitive if you can get one more WR. I wouldn't be selling here, I'd be buying.

Too many mouths to feed in Cleveland and with it being TE premium I would want a solid player coming back. I would hold for now.

I would not even consider this for a contenting team. I am actually in a similar situation where I own both players in a league, and as a competitive team I think it's a great situation to be in. Ertz should be good again this year, but Philly is $52 million OVER the cap in 2021, so I see a veteran purge coming there next off season. Ertz is one of the higher paid TEs in the game, and assuming he's still playing at a reasonably high level, there should be a trade market for him. This would allow Goedert (still on his rookie deal) to slide in as the starter in Philly, while Ertz takes over as the top TE on another team.

I will disagree with the consensus. If you feel like this is the year Ertz fades and Goeddert ascends you do this trade. Give me AJ over Bradyless Edleman and I find it hard to believe they went and gave Hooper a 44million dollar deal with over half guaranteed so he can watch Njoku from the sidelines, Njoku believes too hence his trade request. New head coach, new offense and he hand picked Hooper, not an accident. Picks just gravy.

Yeah there is risk but this isn't a crazy trade, I think you did a good job with Hooper as insurance should Ertz stay the man. You can always look to pack up Hooper and Green to find a younger sexier WR if you prefer as well.

My other concern is this season being a wash because of corona virus.

Its a smart thing to consider. I like qualifying things so that no season risk has me doing this.

Older none rb degrade 1/2 rnd value.
Older RB I degrade 1 full rnd value.

This is for my trading, helps me keep things tidy in my mind while I decide on various moves.

I can understand this. But the trade that you mentioned would be selling at a discount. Big difference.

Truthfully, I don't think that Ertz's value is high right now. Like you, many see Goedert taking a step forward. And many see Ertz's not-as-productive-as-usual season in 2019 and think that he is getting close to done. Not for me, though.

I do think that Goedert will be a top-10 TE in 2020, but there is absolutely room in the Philly offense for two elite TEs. Who else is a threat to be the primary target?? And Wentz loves Ertz in the red zone. In addition, Ertz has been a rock the past few years, and 31 is not a cliff for TEs anymore.

I don't mind you shopping around Ertz, but I don't think that is a must-sell (K. Allen, A. Jones, A. Ekeler are guys that I have moved everywhere). I'd be happy to ride him out this year. If he stays in Philly, then great!! If he moves on after next year, then great!! I don't see a cliff coming right away.
