In any case, part of this is our executive leadership consistently, predictably, and seemingly deliberately bungling the response. The irony is that nearly every other world leader is experiencing a polling bump for handling this thing responsibly; meanwhile Trump has mismanaged this with the explicit goal of helping the economy in a bid for re-election, and he’s clearly been hurt at the polls.

That’s just part of it, though. The other part is that we live in a country that now fears and resents expertise and knowledge. Undereducated folks on Facebook seem to refuse to admit that physicians and epidemiologists might know a bit more about what’s going on than they do. You see it here, too. Try to explain any type of data driven concept, and people lose their minds with rage because they were presented with data. We’re doing worse because we have people angrily refusing to wear a mask, and none of it is surprising. It’s just depressing.

I have pretty strong feelings on this since it has touched me pretty heavily. Bottom line when the leader of our country shrugs it off and refuses to wear a mask because he thinks it makes him look weak, that sends a message to people who think he is a smart person. Americnas are selfish and we are going to be dealing with this longer than any other country in the world. Wear a damn mask.

Pfizer has a vaccine that produces more antibodies than the disease itself. Plan to produce 100MM doses this year.

Does it work on the bubonic plague?

Can you list your source?

If it's this, count me out. I'm not putting that in my body based on the trials they did. Says they plan to do more trials in the article.

Honestly the study seems promising. The only side effect is a fever (which means the vaccine is doing it's job)? I'll take that over brain lesions, pulmonary embolisms, and organ failure.

No one knows the long term effects from Covid-19 (although we have an idea). Visa versa no one knows the long term effects of a vaccine. That's why most vaccine's take so long to develop. Trying to rush it out is going to be a double edged sword, but could be vital on resuming everyday life.

Sure. I may take some time off over getting it, as I am not going to take a vaccine that is rushed. Not everybody is in the position to do so, so I get it.

Just to clarify something here. That is early phase trials on healthy adults. The purpose is to identify side effects and to dose the vaccine. Eventually the vaccine will enter phase 3 trials which looks at a much larger sample size and begins to consider (for lack of a better word) demographics.

While the vaccine is certainly being hurried due to the current situation, it will not be rushed in a way that would greatly risk people's health.

Fever is a common side effect of vaccines as it's a primary way that your body deals with foreign invaders. The key is to see if the fevers are low or high. Low fevers while uncomfortable tend to not to pose much risk. High fevers on the other hand can cause long term damage.

Yeah, this is a great example of how so many people fundamentally misunderstand statistics and probability.

Wasn't the polls. Was suppression, gerrymandering, hacking, cheating, and lies. ICYMI HRC won by 3 million votes. But let's focus on COVID in here, right? Not politics?

COVID is only getting worse, surging, highest single day of cases ever. Most cases in the world. This is so screwed up.
